They must be using some new definition of the word "required": "strongly suggested," perhaps? All parents have to do to evade such "requirements" is to sign a statement that vaccinations are contrary to their philosophical beliefs, and bob's your uncle. As a result, some schools in the Bay Area have fewer than half the students vaccinated.

I think it should be thoroughly explained to parents, and provide translation for those who need it. As I get older, I think it should be a choice or a suggestion. My kids and I get the flu, sick.....shot or no shot.

Anna, if there were no opt-out, Christian Scientists could never send their kids to school. And if you allow an opt-out for one group, you have to allow an opt-out for others. If it were just those who truly opt out for religious reasons, it probably would be a very small problem. It's the others who are just afraid of the vaccines that are creating a whole new wave of un-vaccinated kids.
