Moffett a serious contender for World Expo

Original post made on Feb 3, 2011

It appears more and more likely that the World Expo will come to Moffett Field in 2020, along with a new local landmark, tens of millions of visitors and hundreds of thousands of jobs, according to backers of the event at the Bay Area Council.

It will look real good for Mtn. View if just the SKELETON of Hangar One is the only thing standing over Moffett Field. /sarcasm

I suggest the city gets it's act together and lobby the PRESENT USERS OF MOFFETT FIELD ( you know, those rich guys ) to pony up the money to reskin Hangar One....

Good to see that the runway won't be destroyed permanently. When I first saw the drawings, I was worried that the airport would be closed.

I am the first to stand in line to work here, or buy tickets. Count me in.

I don't think so. The burrowing owls would be out of a home if this thing were built as shown.

Given the near-exponential rate of climate warming, and the tendency of the environment to change states in large jumps rather than gradually, does it really make sense to plan 10 years out for Moffett when it may well be under water? It's only a couple feet above sea level.

This helps to make the point that Moffett field and Hanger One are valuable resources worth saving and even though the airfield has limitaions as to how much it could be used, there are many ways to make it a positive contributor to our community as well as preserving it's great history.

I am sick and tired of the development in this area. The world's fair would just bring traffic and congestion. I think it is ok to just say no to any more high density housing and development in the Shorline area. Our beautiful town is being overexpanded!

@the_punnisher: Umm, getting this Exhibition would be a great way to finally get this addressed. And @Seer, I truly hope you were being sarcastic. @PH has the right idea. Of course, soon we will hear from the deluge of NIMBYs.

@Ron - when you lose everything you have saved for the past 16 years because of a development project that wasn't disclosed to you in the sale of your home, see if you can really make fun of nimbys. Marginalizing people is rude no matter who they are.
