Everything's not Zen with belligerent bar patron

Original post made on Jan 25, 2011

Three Mountain View police officers found their hands full with an unruly bar patron in the early hours of Sunday, Jan. 23. It took all three officers to restrain and cuff a 6-foot-7-inch, 260-pound Zen Lounge patron who was causing a ruckus near the entry to the club at closing time, according to a police spokeswoman.

I would expect that the City will bill the owners of 'Zen' for the security services provided? Zen does not sound very Zen-like to me..

Why does the City of Mountain View keep permitting these sleazy bars downtown? The tax revenue can't be worth the police expense, and it creates a very family-hostile atmosphere. Other cities try to keep this kind of thing out, not to encourage it.

@ Cellmate: your comment made me laugh outloud! ... "Zen Lounge" sounds like a strip joint for Asian dancers ... the guy is lucky he wasn't tased or seriously injured ...

"Why does the City of Mountain View keep permitting these sleazy bars downtown" you ask? Well until you can get the downtown business or redevelopment committee to seek out some quality retail establishments like Palo Alto (Gap, Apple, etc) has done then this is how you fill up space and keep people coming to our downtown. Something is better then nothing.

If the city wants to get something right then they need to jump on improving the major corners (like the Odd Fellows...what a waste of a prime space).

Ah, but we have such a fine tradition of such venues. Anyone old enough to remember the "Man Hole Tavern" on Castro St? I think I still have a matchbook from that place, inherited from my older brother.

Was that the place that used to have the "Ladies Wecome" [sic] hand-painted sign out front?

I always thought that was classy...
