OK, MVPD...get your pencils out, and get ready to take notes, because it's time for "Gang Initiations -101".

Norteno and Sureno gangs will typically do things of this nature with new members as part of passing a "rite of passage" gang ritual, for initiation into the gang.

A show of bravado, perhaps even escalating to violence, has been known to occur during these initiation rituals, where some unsuspecting individual or individuals are singled out in order to show how supposedly "macho" they are to their confederates, to qualify for gang membership.

This is a *basic* element of "latin machismo culture", which if any of your gang units took cultural anthropology like I did back in college, they would know this already.

Here the lesson ends, and the students are enlightened...hopefully.

Go get'em, kids!

Addendum: For those of you keeping score, the concept is that those who are trying to qualify for gang membership are the ones singling out an unsuspecting innocent bystander to terrorize, to qualify for membership in the gang in question.

And in conclusion, has anyone else noticed that the overt crimes in this area of Mountain View are now happening DAILY??

It's time to wake up MVPD, and smell your coffee and doughnuts...and DO SOMETHING!!

USA is a registered user.

"15-year-old ... violating his probation"

Wrong on so many levels.

"has anyone else noticed that the overt crimes in this area of Mountain View are now happening DAILY??"

I've noticed that the Voice is reporting on them daily. I think that they were always happening but were buried in the police blotter instead of full-fledged articles now that they have less other content to print (due to cutbacks).

@The Eye: Thanks for the unnecessary primer. We all know what you've so condescendingly described to us. Including the police. Your services as an instructor are no longer required. You do know that the MVPD has a gang task force, don't you? Too bad they can't stop every single bad act in town; no PD can.

Of course, the problems related to the MVPD's lack of effectiveness with respect to increasing gang activity could perhaps be of *this* nature:

I guess we'll all just have to wait and see...

Its time for the CCW dance again!

More CCWs = Less random crimes.

MVPD should encourage CCW in our community.

If the victim would have had a gun, we would have read about the shootout in the residential neighborhood with bukllets flying into peoples homes instead of just a threatfrom some wannabe tough guy. Thanks god there is no CCW allowed.

Again...where is the MVPD when all this crime is happening? Well, besides Starbucks on El Monte.

@2WrongNoRight,

Sorry, but your Hollywood movie fantasy is not reality.

You don't get a CCW if you don't know how to safely use a gun.

Do you want to take guns away from the Police? You know their bullets works the same way as a CCW, except the CCW carrier would be less likely to use the gun than the police.

p.s. When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.

"p.s. When seconds count, the police are just minutes away."

Now *that's* what I call a painful truth! Especially if you're on the receiving end of either the pipe or the gun. What is this? A game of "Clue?"

@Sal, sorry but your perceived reality is all just a hypothetical fantasy. You seem the forget the other guy with the gun, he has no "safety training" (good lord, like that would be enough)
Anyway, we had full resolution with the perp captured, and somehow it was all done (GASP) without a second gun even being pulled. Everybody went home, and the area homeowners slept in their homes without bullets flying outside, maybe inside.
Well everyone but the perps went home ;) The police got them, and not a single CCW proponent was even looking.

Just like the police, hopefully the CCW holder would never have to use their gun.

If the "perps" knew the community they were in was friendly to CCWs, would they have even carried a gun at all?

The stats have shown, that more CCWs, does not equal more gun use in crimes. (Although I will admit stats do not always mean reality).
