I hope these guys are caught. I don't know if the penalties for physical crimes committed again older people carry a greater sentence. I think they should. Society should protect victims who have a greater risk of injury from crime. Maybe an enhanced sentence would act as a deterrent as well. Makes sense to me.

One thing is certain: The criminal element in Mountain View (or at least the criminal element committing crimes of this sort in Mountain View, whether residents or not) are getting bolder than ever before in undertaking such crimes.

And another important thing that may be gleaned from this trend is that they apparently don't feel that there will be anyone to oppose them in these acts, and sadly, that seems to be so, or it wouldn't keep happening (and increasingly so) so frequently.

Where was the store security staff when they were needed? On a coffee break? Oh, that's right, store policy probably prohibits staff from doing anything that might be considered "crime prevention", citing the usual gutless policy of "Oh, we're insured for that."

It seems no one wants to actually man up, and do...*anything*, anymore. How sad that these criminals know for a certainty that they can get away with anything they want.

"All that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

Look at the "Police Blotter" and you will find that most of the crimes in M.V. are committed by Hispanics. Plain and simple. The city needs to fortify it's anti-gang task force in a similar way that Salinas has done before we're all afraid to leave our houses.

Last week someone felt bold enough to simply walk out of this same store with a cart full of merchandise (including a wide screen tv!!) before attempting to run store staff over with their car to ensure their get-away. Now two men are able to accost a customer right at a cash register (at least I assume that is where the victim was if he had cash in his hand)?

It appears that while this store was focusing on re-arranging the furniture and widening the isles, that their money would have been better spent on additional security personel. "Lipstick on a pig" is the best way to describe our Mountain View WalMart.

In a housing market, where rents are unatainable for the avereage working class family (yet we manage......somehow), I simply cannot wrap my thoughts around how ghetto this WalMart is, or the fact that WalMart doesn't recognize how ghetto they are! All you have to do is look around the neighborhood at the nearest power lines to see the tennis shoe markings of the local gangs.

I'm done with this WalMart. I'll drive all the way to Milpitas from now to find my consumer savings. If someone is able to rob you while you are standing in a cashiers line, then how am I supposed to feel safe walking to my car WITH my purse in one hand and purchases in another?

More crime has been committed at this WalMart in the past month or so, than was ever committed at the medical marijuana dispensary when it was open in MV. In fact, there was no crime that I heard of ever committed at that dispensary. Just sayin.

"More crime has been committed at this WalMart in the past month or so, than was ever committed at the medical marijuana dispensary when it was open in MV. In fact, there was no crime that I heard of ever committed at that dispensary. Just sayin."

----------------

In the same light, there has been more crime committed at this Walmart than at the adult bookstore on El Camino in the past month or so, than at medicinal marijuana dispensaries in MV.

So let's have more adult bookstores while we're at it. One could justify that they are also promote a totally "natural" and "organic" high, and some would even call it their "medicine". Finally, there's no toxic level of porn, on the contrary, one experiences a "heightened" level of living the more one partakes.

Exactly Hardin, you see the warped logic of the "Crime will increase" crowd as well. We only fear what we do not understand, but when we understand it, like when we hear reports from other cities about how no crime increase occurred, then re realize our fears were unfounded.
Cheers.

Precisely, let's have the MMJ dispensaries right next to the adult bookstores, as they seem to serve the same purposes and one can then assume a synergistic "healing" benefit of participating in both...

Fearing what you don't understand is one thing. Comprehensive analysis about what is fact-based, backed by scientific evidence and data is quite another.

Fuzzy logic and one-offs aside, there's scant justification for a dispensary in Mountain View. The majority of local cities of comparable size and character to Mountain View are in agreement with that.

I think it is hilarious that "Real Facts" can jump from an article on crime at Walmart somehow means we should have marijuana dispensaries. Let's see. By that logic we should close down ALL stores and just have pot dispensaries! If EVERY store just distributed pot instead, we would have ZERO crime!

Hate Walmart, one more reason never to set foot inside the place.

If Walmart management was smart they would reimburse the victim with a $500 gift card as an act of good will and as an apology for their lack of security. But maybe the victim will sue them, good luck to him.

Wow, you people read a lot in between the lines, make sarcastic claims, then attribute those claims to me. I guess if you can't win on the refute the facts, make a false claim then say your opponent said it. Enjoy that game of solitaire.

--------------------------

Your "facts" aren't in question, just their out of context use in the attempt to push an agenda on a off-topic issue.

Word to the wise, if you plan on standing up to speak out, be prepared to defend your arguments, otherwise sit down and remain silent.

You have no grounds to complain when people question you, if you haven't bothered to think things through.

Watch the crime reports - that Walmart is almost always written up.
The place is ghetto, I haven't ever, and will not go there.
Pathetic people robbing a 70 year old.

I agree with Kathy...... However, Walmart should give this man CASH, since that is what was taken from him...... I doubt he wants to shop there again, let alone dump hundreds!

One more reason (on a VERY long list) to ease the CCW requirements and allow LAW ABIDING citizens the ability to protect themselves and their belongings!! An armed society is a polite society!!

Hardin: "You have no grounds to complain when people question you"
Again, more reading between the lines. Where did you imagine you read a complaint? Didn't you understand that I was amused by you and decided not to play that game when I wrote "Enjoy that game of solitaire"?
I simply acknowledged posters making up something I said, but never really did say.
Anyway, Enjoy your day, I'll give you the last word after I give you my last word: Comprehension. (It involves both reading AND understanding what you just read)

What is amusing is seeing you try to back out of a discussion you've initiated but have been unable so far to defend.

If you really didn't mean for people to read between the lines, and if all you really wanted to do was point out an unrelated fact taken out of context, then you've succeeded in saying nothing of significance or relevance related to newspaper article.

I'll wait patiently to see if you really have given me the last word on this.

Given that this was possibly a crime of opportunity, I'm hoping the perps weren't too guarded with revealing their faces to security cameras. I would think WalMart would be able to get a good image of each of them. Of course its just as likely that they were "hunting"
for a victim, aware and guarded of the cameras. What kind of scum does that to an old man shopping at WalMart. Made ya look H. ;)

WE ARE ABSOLUTELY PETRIFIED TO GO INTO THAT STORE AT NIGHT AND NOW THAT THERE ARE MORE CRIMES IN THE DAYTIME; WE MIGHT AS WELL SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE! IT IS NOT WORTH BEING ASSAULTED AND ROBBED TO SAVE A FEW BUCKS! While I'm at it, we will also not set foot into Rengstorff Park; all that land; wasted on fear.

Why not just close it. If crime is out of control there why can't the city council direct Walmart to hire armed security guards. For an example the city of San Jose is going to permanently close the "Club Wet" nightclub because of crime. is going to be closed permanently. I like "Navy_Gunner" posting....
