Original post made on Nov 30, 2010

Former Palo Alto Mayor Yoriko Kishimoto was named to the board of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Monday night, following interviews with three finalists. I have few complaints with Midpen except for one major gripe. Its a group of 7 that makes decisions on huge numbers of citizen in the area, but these citizens have no say as to who will fill the seats in most cases. They can appoint people without a vote if its in an off election year, and that person is there for as long as they want. I would love to see term limits at midpen as well as any off election replacements being temporary until the next election. The current "Old boy" system can be played so members retire during off years, thus side stepping any attempt at injecting "new blood" into the group. This is dangerous IMO and not fair to the community as a whole.

Great News on Yoriko Kishimoto being appointed to the Midpen board. My Best wishes on a successful term.
I'll also miss Mary Davies, her spirit +enthusiasm for all things Open Spaces was+is an inspiration for all of us.
My only comment is in hopes that Ms Kishimoto is a more fair+balanced voice for including Mt Bike riders within Open Space lands.
Not just fire roads, but single track trails too.
As MROSD expands over to include coastal properties, many of these rural lands are laced with single track trails.
Bicycles are a positive part of many residents outdoor activities, and MROSD could do a much better job of accommodating them.
