Good Lord 15 on 2 attack with bats, chains, golf clubs, metal bars...

Time to allow us law abiding citizens to have our CCW for self-defense.

The cops did a good job of catching many suspects but they cannot be there to prevent the crime, we have to have the means to protect ourselves it is a simple right of nature.

Bats, chains and metal rods on a Sunday afternoon? Gang related? I surely hope so. This sounds like a scene out of the '79 cult film "The Warriors". Good Job MVPD! You certainly have your hands full with this kind of stuff going on.

Race related attack? Asian gang? White gang? Mexican gang? Canadian gang? Ethnic gang? We'll never know with this type of reporting. I guess gangs are pretty non-descript these days.

It's time to start packing a gun, 24/7.

I like to see 15 bangers arrested in Mountain View. It's a good message...start trouble, get arrested! We have problems with gangs but MVPD has always stepped up to the plate to do what needed to be done. As far as 15 on 2... bangers never fight fair that's why they're wimps!

And did I actually read someone turning this into a racial conversation? Give me a break dude. The police said it appeared to be gang related, that's all. The only one bringing race to this is you. The question is, why are you relating a race to gangs? Maybe you are the one stereotyping?

Justice served!

One gang related incident and all the Bubbas all pile out of Starbuck's to say how they need to carry concealed guns. I'd hate to live with that much fear that I thought that was a logical option. Be brave Bubba, or try to be more brave I should say.

AC is a registered user.

I've heard the CCW thing before, and have commented on it before; so I don't mind doing it again.

No CCW. Wear it on the outside, on your belt with your clips and bullets. There is greater deterrent in knowing you're packing, then having to deal with the possibility of scuffles, having them get at your gun, you getting clocked while fumbling for it, or any of that business.

And people like me, who choose not to walk around armed, deserve to know if you're walking around loaded.

The problem is that these individuals are arrested and then released after a short period of time. Keep them in jail fr a long time, and it might actually send a message to the rest.

Hang them right where they committed the crimes. These folks obviously have no respect for laws of this country. The nature of the crimes shows these guys are gangsters and want to terrorize that neighborhood with their typical gangster cars.

Wow. jupiterk is the executioner.

Tell me more about these typical gangster cars. Do all gangsters drive one? Explain.

A disgrace. These thugs should be embarrassed but they probably celebrated for the beatdown. Real classy when it takes a gang of wannabe tough guys to take down 2 people. Maybe it is time for people to take up arms. We do have a right to protect ourselves and our neighbors. Don't give me crap for this, look it up before responding. Illegal's are too blame for a large majority of crimes in California. Yet, we build them a nice place to hang out, drink, eat and get jobs that pay cash with no taxes. We turn the other way when we know someone is here illegally. Within 300 feet of me there are people that are not here legally. There's one 2 bedroom home that now has 7 adults and 4 kids living in it. 4 of those adults came from Phoenix when they felt the heat. But now they know they are in the comfort of a sanctuary city, even though the people in charge will deny it. I guess they think we're all blind, or don't care.

A gun is a form of insurance. I believe that having insurance on something as valuable as your life, is an easy call. I'd like to be around to see my granddaughter have her own kids.

I disagree with AC - I believe CCW is a greater deterrent than open carry. As you said yourself, you would like to know if someone is walking around with a loaded gun - the bad guys have a much greater concern about the very same thing.

Its much more scary to the criminal to not know who around them might have a CCW, instead of just glancing them over to see if they are armed or not.

BubbaBuster - Be brave, guns are not that scary! I suggest you take a gun safety course to learn more about the topic.

Once again, you gun types ignore the fact that more people are hurt by their own guns than save themselves or anyone else. And isn't it great to know that if you're having a bad day, and I piss you off for some reason, you can just blow me away instead of trying to take a swing at me or yell. Get a clue, people.

Report so thin one does not know what happened, who was there, or whether the moon was full. C'mon "Voice", tell us more!

Statistics - Oh, Thanks for saving all of us from ourselves!!!

Do you own a car? And isn't it great to know that if you're having a bad day, and I piss you off for some reason, you can just drive over me instead of taking a swing at me or yell?

Its not about the tool, its the user.

Get a clue, Statistics. We all know that 9 of 10 stats are a lie! ;)

To: "Bangers are wimps"

Of course, in mountain view we live in constant fear of the "caucasian" street gangs... and it's the illegal "caucasians" living 12 per apartment in the old mountain view neighborhoods... and it's the "caucasian" gangs that always show up in the crime blotter each week and every time there is a a quality community event held anywhere in mountain view... but, no, it's not about race is it? stereo types exist because they are the overwhelming, predominant truth and facts around a situation. If we were in Alabama, I'd be worried it was caucasian organization. that is the problem in their area. here... wake up. it's not racist to state the obvious.

Not true. Only the stupid people, who don't know how to handle firearms, and aren't properly trained, like me. BTW, because of your ignorant attitude, if I'm ever out and armed, and you're ever in trouble nearby, you can count on my piece never leaving its holster in your defense. Your can rest assured...and rest in peace, just like you apparently want it to be.

I agree that CCW is more of a deterrent to the bad guys. Criminals don't want to fear for their own lives when they are ignoring rules that the rest of us follow.

Unfortunately open carry draws unwanted attention and scares those who are ignorant about how useful these can be when used properly in the hands of a law-abiding citizen. Since educating all Californians not to fear firearms is impossible, CCW is the only logical choice. CCW permits are only issued to people who are tested to not only prove they can handle a specific firearm but can diffuse a situation without immediately resorting to pulling the trigger, as opposed to those who don't have any training and make too many stupid mistakes (like shooting themselves or leaving an unlocked firearm accessible to children).

One well-trained individual with a CCW could easily have deterred that entire gang without even having to pull the trigger. I don't see how you can feel safer leaving your security up to the whim of a thug. Kudos to MVPD for cleaning up the situation quickly. They are fast and professional but it is impossible for them to be everywhere to prevent crime. I want to carry a gun because I can't carry MVPD in my pocket.

I also think that the argument that someone is going to "blow you away" over a simple argument is obviously a kneejerk exaggeration. The vast majority of free states actually allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm, yet you don't hear about the type of shootings you have envisioned. Simply put, the type of person to apply for a CCW is the type of person who actually respects the law enough to follow a process to be tested and have a background investigation performed (i.e. not the criminally-minded type).
- Anyone with a criminal background is denied.
- If you commit a crime, permission is revoked.
- If you act irresponsibly without even invoking the firearm (DUI or domestic violence, for example), permission is revoked.
- If you act irresponsibly with the gun, stiffer penalties apply just like for anyone else, except that the CCW holder is held to a higher standard.

Criminals and gang bangers obviously don't care about human life or society's rules. The story reported here could've easily ended up with a fatality due to mob mentality.

Unless you are a law enforcement officer, you are a danger to me and the rest of society if you carry a weapon -- openly or concealed. Increasing the number of armed idiots in the streets is not the answer. Do us all a favor and leave the guns at home. At least that way, when your weapon is turned against you, it's your problem and not mine.

The more guns around, the less crime there is. Look at Vermont.

The problem is not racial, the problem is socio-economic (which includes lack of education.) As long as we don't discuss and address that fact the problem will continue. Gangs exist because members only get validation from other thugs rather than from their parents (who are impoverished, overburdened and uninvolved.) Members roam the streets because they see other members of society who have things and they see no other way to get ahead besides dealing violence to "take some" for themselves. They are trying to mete out some sort of weird justice because they see that fate resulted in them being born into destitution and hardship with possibly some early abuse thrown in.
