Attempted sexual assault reported in Palo Alto

Original post made on Nov 29, 2010

Police are investigating reports of an attempted sexual assault in Palo Alto early Thursday morning. At 12:30 a.m., a girl was walking in the 100 block of Alma Street after having pizza with friends when she was allegedly knocked down from behind by a man who tried to pull down her pants and assault her, police said.

Are these details accurate? Seems odd she was having pizza w/ friends, then went off by herself, fought off the assault then ran towards El Camino and her mom was right there? Also, the perp was in just a white t-shirt at 12:30am on the most freezing night in recent history? No coat? Strange considering how bitterly cold it was.
Something isn't adding up or being reported properly IMO.

Why in sexual assault cases does someone always question all the details? I don't see anyone questioning the facts on the two guys who got attacked by a gang of 15 thugs. What is so odd about a teenager going down the street to their friend's house to hang out and eat pizza? Her Mom may probably called to tell her to come home and was watching out for her to arrive. Perp was probably on drugs or drunk and did not feel the cold. I am not sure these are the facts, but they could be. I am not doubting this story either.

Reading the above posts its clear that this is why details are important. There are equally valid assumptions pointing to a false report, or a valid report. The public is left to make up a story of what might have happened depending. Sadly stories like this have been found to be false claims far too many times in the past that its made the public wary of simply believing a story at face value, esp if the story is so filled with questions. Its sad that its come to that, maybe we don't show the proper outrage each time a false report is filed. For this poor girl's sake, I pray this was a false report like so many that have come before it.
