Veteran settles for $250K in Palo Alto VA claim

A veteran who claimed he was blinded because of negligent medical care at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System has settled with the U.S. government for $250,000, according to court records.

If the doctors know and admit he was not treated properly, why did he have his initial claim denied? It seems like this was adding insult to injury, and additional cost for no apparent reason.

$250,000 for losing your eyesight? Does not seem nearly enough to me. Poor guy.
