This area is filled with those "me first" falsely self important drivers all trying to get ahead of the other guy and generally driving way too fast. Now one of them has hit a 16 year old kid. Maybe he'll heal, maybe he'll limp for the rest of his life, but for what?
C'mon drivers, you need to realize how dangerous you really are and act accordingly. Slow down!

It was just a matter of time before this happened. There is no pedestrian friendly way to cross the 101 in that area. It's also dangerous for cars. I came close to death when an on coming car, not paying attention to the curve of the bridge, swerved into my lane and nearly hit me head on. There's no where to go when that happens, no room to move.

But, but...

Volvos are the most perfect, safest vehicles in the world. Just see them all defying death and causing mayhem any morning at any area school parking lot/bus zone, highlighting their at off-road performance as they cut across planters and lawns at will! They can fly!
Especially on wet pavement, apparently. Here's a motoring tip Speed Racer; rain = slippery.
Put down the cellphone/Starbucks and drive the car.

Californians Can't Drive In The Rain!

@John: Every other Californian in the area was doing OK driving in the rain, it seems just this person had issues...and she may have been from Oregon for all we know. Your assertion does not hold up even under very minimal scrutiny.

Sad? Maybe, but people on nikes think they own the roads most of the time. They need to recognize safe areas to ride. Then add people not qualified to drive along with texting, talking on the cell, reading the paper...adds up to potential problems. As far as I remember there are known drivers out there that paid for their licenses. Not saying that's the case here, however when nothing was done after several DMV employee's were caught issueing licenses to people without them taking the written or the driving tests.

Volvo driver blames the Prius driver for him slamming into a cyclist? Classic Mountain View.

Do-gooder Volvo driver with KPFA and I Heart Composting bumperstickers slams into a cyclist, but thankfully the Volvo driver is unhurt. In Mountain View it's all about looking like you care and telling the world how much you care about the planet and peace, but when it comes to actually caring about people on the road, you don't have the time for that nonsense.
