Three sentenced in gang-related stabbing

Original post made on Oct 13, 2010

Three members of a Norteno gang from Mountain View have been sentenced in last year's stabbing death of Mario Aguilar, an 18-year-old San Jose man, according to officials from the district attorney's office. Three others members of the same gang are scheduled to be sentenced next month in connection with the same incident.

As a Black man who has never committed a crime or been arrested I feel the content of my character has been disregarded to the point that I have been thrown in with people who are not like me. But the real issue is the MV Voice printing and allowing these types of comments which appear to include all people of color. Those comments do not address the topic 3 sentenced in gang related stabbing. It's obvious I appear to be surrounded by people who really dislike people of color due to a few bad apples. I guess I should have thrown the baby out with the bath water.

Put the race cards away. Gang-bangers come in all colors and shapes. These guys just happen to be in a known Mexican connection gang. They belong with their peers and not among my neighbors.

When the article leads off with, "Three members of a Norteno gang from Mountain View," does that mean the three members are from MV or the gang is from MV?

Does anyone know where the "headquarters" is for this gang? or how many Norteno gang members are living in MV?

I know I lead a naive, sheltered life, but I didn't realize that this was an issue here.

Only people who can provide facts (not ridiculous prejudice or racial stereotyping need respond).

Concerned Citizen,

The "headquarters" of the Nortenos is likely Pelican Bay State Penitentiary as they are affiliated with the Nuestra Familia prison gang. They're all over the North of the state. Here's more info:

The movie "American Me" w/ Edward James Olmos tells the story of how the Nuestra Familia came to power in the CA prison system. How accurate it is, I don't know, but its entertaining

Actually, "American Me" tells the story of the Mexican Mafia (La Eme), who are the rivals of the NF. Edward James Olmos played the part of Rudolf "Cheyenne" Cadena (AKA Santana) and had a contract put out on him by La Eme, who didn't like how they were portrayed.

La Eme formed at Soledad and the NF formed at Deuel Vocational in Tracy, but obviously their influence is now widespread.

I've removed several racist comments and I'm shutting down this thread. There are plenty of places on the Web that may welcome such vitriol, but this is not one of them.
