I agree with Navy_Gunner and BD. Criminals like this will always find a way to access guns, they don't care whether the guns are legal or not. When is the rest of society going to realize that.

The article says nothing about the robber bringing a gun or having a gun. I am not sure why the gun-obsessed BD,Gunner and MVNative all rattling about owning a gun or firing a gun,etc...
DO you violent people want to shoot someone because he/she trying to steal somethings? I agree stealing is a felony and there are violent criminals in our society. But exaggerating everything to the worst scenario shows how gun supporters will kill anyone for a minor offense.

That being said, Gunner, BD, and MVNative, do you really want to escalate the theft of $140 worth of property into an armed stand-off, or worse, a firefight?

Moreover, unless you plan on requiring people to take regular tactical handgun practice, I think an armed, out-of-practice citizen trooper is at least as dangerous as an armed criminal. I doubt that your average person can get an accurate double-tap on a range, much less under combat conditions.

Wasp spray is good. It's quieter than a gun, certainly cheaper, and vastly more effective than pepper spray. Ortho Home Defense foams on contact. It's excellent. I keep a can in the car and a couple at home.

The use of wasp spray for self defense is an urban legend, sorry. Look it up. Use pepper spray. It's legal, and it actually works.

"Urban legend"? It worked pretty well the last time I used it, which is more than I can say for pepper spray.

Of course, I'm not advocating breaking any laws, here. The only self-defense that Santa Clara County allows non-corporate "persons" to carry is pepper spray. Remember that, citizens! The glorious state retains a monopoly on violence.

As a citizen who could have been walking past that store with my son, I'm VERY glad there wasn't some gun nut ready to go all wild west to protect 140 bucks but risk human life in the process.

Why don't the people who own the fence behind Clyde's Liquor store install some barbed wire on top of the fence slats. This is the third time in less than two years that a criminal has hopped that same fence. Having friends in that area causes me to worry about their safety. At least if some sort of sharp metal was installed on top of the fence, it would deter the robber and at the same time the police would be able to obtain some DNA.
Is it against the city ordinance to add a line of barb wire directly on to the top of the fences behind the serveral business along El Camino Real? Especially those businesses that are directly in front of residential back yards and apartment buildings. Something needs to be done for the safety of all.
