I do think that he is a little strange but I have no qualms with this guy as he is absolutely free to say what he wants, but it is obvious that he is just vying for attention, and guess what, he completed his goal. I mean, he could have taken a seat but wouldn't move, all in an attempt to prove a point, although I am not sure what point it was. I have no sympathy for this idiot!

I agree with you; however, I am not sure he is just vying for attention with his truck. Some of the things that he writes are divisive and "freedom of speech" or not, his messages are usually not helpful to the city or the community.

Hey, freedom of speech includes stuff that most people dont like. That said, I find much of his drivel misogynistic, borderline racist, and just dumb.

And your point? Protected speech is protected speech. The first amendment is intended to keep government out of the business of deciding what kind of messages are helpful. I'm not sure I even believe that my own comment on this message board is helpful.

As for Ideafarm, I pass his trailer on my daily commute and had noticed that his messages have become quite repetitive -- "Silenced by MVPD" "A people silenced is a people divided." "A people silenced is a people conquered." All right, all right, I get it! But it's interesting to hear the back story about one of our city's more colorful characters.

How about that guy on N. Rengstorff near Costco who wants to "Stop abusive code inspections"? Anyone know what that's about. I have been wondering for many years.

Yes, there is freedom of speech, but it does not include the freedom to ostruct traffic. I strongly dislike seeing his trailer around the main streets of MV, which in my opinion is a hazard, especially for bikers, and I am not even talking about the eye sore that it is.

I think WooWoo and Weee have the right attitude. Wo is entertaining and shouldn't be taken too seriously. At the same time I wonder what he might do next, he doesn't seem to follow the status quo for acceptable behavior. Anything is possible.

The box thats on Shoreline right now, has no license plate or legal tow hitch. It is supported by caster wheels. So is it legal? Can I put a box on the street and leave it for days on end? Lets all build a box and leave it on the street, what a lovely town this would be. I would love to see this thing gone about 2 years ago. Enough is enough. Totally agree with Joe. This nutcase is a blight in Mountain View and needs to move on. We all have great opinions that are best spoken to friends or written in blogs, or expressed properly. One of these days a serious injury is going to occur by a bicyclist or a car driver who isn't prepared for that hunk o'junk to be in the right-hand lane of a major street. Can't the city council come up wih an ordinance forbidding it?

Free Speech under the First Amendment is NOT the right to say whatever/anything a person wants whenever/wherever they so choose. When that speech (or the platform) endangers the safety of people and/or is detrimental to good order & discipline (law), then it is NOT protected and IS considered provocation to unruliness.

He is a nuisance but harmless. We should not waste any city resources dealing with his antics. If he violates any laws or regulations, impound his possesions and destroy them or sell them. That will take care of it once and for all.

If I parked a junk car on the street with no license plates it would be towed away in a few days. Why is this junk box allowed on our streets without similar action?

The 1st amendment gives this clown the right to SAY or PUBLISH anything he likes. It DOES NOT give him the right to impede traffic, to put motorists and cyclists at risk, to clutter up our streets and sidewalks with his eyesore of a rolling billboard, to expose children to his vulgar rantings or to interrupt commerce by blocking access to businesses or their parking areas.

I suspect that this guy's goal is to provoke to the point where he has something to sue over. Be it a citizen or city employee he seems to be trying to provoke some sort of incident that will give him grounds for a lawsuit.

Why does the city allow for a man to sleep in this box on the street itself. Can I forget the norm and do away with paying rent and living in a box trailer on the street? I don't even need to pay the DMV since it is just a box on wheels pulled by a bicycle. I could save tons. I think I am going to park it in front of Mayor's house.

Sorry, I am really puzzled by all the comments about what is and is not free speech. MVPD seems to have made the call correctly: don't interfere with his constitutional right to free expression (whether or not it his "messages" are "helpful") but do intervene when his trailer or his squatting in public buildings becomes a public nuisance. What exactly is everyone complaining about?

It starts at the grassroots level, with campaign signage donated by the house on North Rengstorff and that trailer. Then, we get enough people to donate for a few ads on KNTV (San Jose channel 11, NBC affiliate). We'll have a 3 am show on KMVT, too. Add some brilliant virally-ambitious Youtube videos, and we're on our way to national attention.
Our platform? Easy; it's already written on the trailer and house.
