Original post made on Aug 30, 2010

Caltrain is likely to keep two of its services instead of cutting them to help close a $2.3 million budget gap, a Caltrain spokesman said Friday.

Holly cow, I was hoping for a nice quiet weekend without Caltrain horns
Looks like I'm gonna have to wait until 2011

When is Caltrain going to start charging for cycles?

There's hardly a day goes by without demands for more cycle space and for Caltrain to spend yet more money on conversions for cycles.

So we have a hapless bureaucracy desperate for funds and we have a haranguing customer base demanding service!

Charge the bicyclists for what they want – space . Solve two problems.

I can’t wait for the “just kidding we are members of the more greener than thou charity” excuses for Caltrain to expend free fuel oil on.

Bummer, I was looking forward to nice quiet weekends starting October!

Looks like we are going to have to deal with Caltrain's noise and safety hazard a little longer until hopefully, they go bankrupt over the next couple of years.

"Cutting weekend service would save $209,000 annually".

So cutting 2 days out of 7 results in $209,000 saving annually (out of a $100,000,000 annual operating budget)

Cutting service by 29% results in a 0.21% in cost savings?

That makes absolutely no sense to me
How is Caltrain being managed?

A group of riders is asking Caltrain to optimize its weekend service by going to express trains on the weekends. This costs less to run and will be attractive to more riders. Shorter runs are covered by buses - slower but more frequent, and could be connected to the express trains.

Mitch - maybe someday we can get all the tracks grade separated and the horns can cease. The riders don't like them either...
