One important factor seems to be overlooked in the Drake equation. Personally we just might be alone as intelegent beings. Life on earth could not have existed without an large stabilizing moon so close. If our own moon was a bit further out our poles woud wobble as a top and like Mars, would have epocs of poles facing the sun. In fact in a billion years our moon will drift out to the point that pole wobble large amounts resulting that life on earth will become impossible for us. Our large moon is truely rare one would conclude.
Further our magnetic field for such a small planet may be a rarity.
That's my thoughts
