Among many other accomplishments, Bill Lane was a giant in the tourism, hospitality and travel industries. His publication, Sunset Magazine, long ago established the highest possible standards for quality, variety and integrity.
If you wanted travelers to know about your hotel or resort, restaurant, or destination city, you advertised in Sunset. Better yet, you might be mentioned in an article. The quality of their recommendation was beyond purchase -- it was an unimpeachable source.
Bill was a leader, an innovator, an ambassador, and eventually he was an institution in his own right.
Aloha, Bill. Blessed voyages to you.
Well said Mr. McPhail.
God speed Mr. Lane
My knowledge of Bill Lane is from his involvement in the Peninsula Open Space Trust, which used his money (and that of many others) to purchase open space land and preserve it from urbanization. Much of that land is now park land, available for the enjoyment of everyone. I am grateful for his longtime support of POST's invaluable work.
He was a true American Hero, we need more people like Bill Lane donating money for public use. May he rest in peace.
We miss you Mrs. Lane. May you rest in pease.
We miss you Mr. Lane. May you rest in piece.
