Unions have not only outlived their usefulness, they are hindering America's competitiveness. Labor unions are no better than modern day mafia who extorts corporate America.

I am not a union member and have never wanted to be, but I disagree strongly with the idea that unions are "no better than modern day mafia who extorts corporate America." Corporate America has spent more than a century fighting unions with every breath, and it appears to me that they are winning.
Workers are complaining that union members are overpaid, for example. I suggest instead that these workers are underpaid.

A bit of trickery with the stats there... I believe there are roughly 1000 non-management civil servants in the collective bargaining unit. The number of actual dues-paying members is probably MUCH less given that the union came into existence on a split vote with about 10% turnout years ago.
Sometimes the union does good things such as lobby congress regarding the importance of NASA Ames to the community, sometimes it does bad things like lobby congress for a COLA raise in these times. The letter from the union was a slap in the face of ARC management... my experience prior to last year was senior management always speaking positively of the union, recognizing their utility and knowing they had employees best interests at heart. Looks like that has changed now. Good job Lee.

This article highlights the double-standard imposed on Federal Agencies by the FLRA. Under the doctrine of "robust debate" Union officials can say and do practically anything, including the use of offensive profanity, libel and slander of the management officals they are involved with. But if management strongly objects to such tactics by the Union, or reciprocates in any way, it is deemed an unfair labor practice by the FLRA; especially under the current Authority. Apparently it is only the Union that can engage in "robust debate". Shame, shame on the FLRA.
