Merger won't fly

We doubt if the Santa Clara County grand jury's idea to save money by merging the three local school districts will generate any enthusiasm in Mountain View or Los Altos. Merging is one of those ideas that looks good on paper but would be virtually impossible to execute.

There sure would be. Two of the current three superintendents and their staff would lose their jobs!

So how do Palo Alto and Pleasanton run to highly successful, and quite large, unified school districts? Those are the models we should be looking toward?

Of is it just that no one wants to admit that the rationale against a merger is all the poor, underprivileged folk that would come with Mountain View's share?
