With serious enforcement of seat belt laws, we will all sleep better at night, knowing that deadbeat drivers who neglect to buckle up will pay their debt to society. Over 95% of California drivers always use their seat belts and this terrible crime wave caused by the scofflaw 4.7% must be stopped.

Isn't everyday 'Enforce Every Law Like You're Supposed To Day'? And why suddenly the pressing need to make a song-and-dance of it? Did compliance rates suddenly and dramatically dip from 95.6% to a totally unacceptable 95.4%?

What a HUGE waste of time and money. It's not like people aren't complying because they are. And it's already an instant ticket if a cop catches your kid not in a proper seat. Don't tell me almost all cops wouldn't ticket you already for that.

Mr. Roadshow's column in the 5/24 Mercury News stated that seat belt use in Santa Clara County is the worst in the state at 84%, compared to the statewide average of 95%, reason alone to have a crackdown.

Not buckling up kids should be felony, reckless endangerment.

And to anyone who claims it's a victimless crime, everyone pays more when someone needs to be scraped off of the pavement--in taxes to pay for emergency response personnel, and in insurance premiums.

At least this will give the police something constructive to do. It's nice they can be out raising revenue for the city instead of waisting their time with less important crime. "Police-for-profit" is a horrible idea. Time for a new chief? New city manager?

Add aggressively ticketing people who do not use turn signals
and we'll be in the black in no time. I'd LOVE to see non turn signal using cell phone talkers be arrested. "Put down the Startbucks, ma'am, and step out of the SUV"

The State pays for this program...so much for State budget cutbacks. Seatbelt non-compliance at least affects directly only those in the vehicle in violation. A much bigger problem, in my view, is tailgating, which has a clear innocent-victim component to address. Time to replace this with a Back Off or Kick Off campaign?...

What about the underage kids riding there bikes without helmets? Why isn't that law enforced?

In addition to the above mentioned, jaywalking laws should also be enforced. With all the tickets issued as a result of these violations, it doesn't hurt to build revenue.

Vehicles without front licence plates are a huge threat to the city of Mountain View and I am glad the Mountain View Police Department dedicates precious resources to fight such a shameless crime.
I hope the the "Click It or Ticket campaign" won't be a distraction for the MVPD. The crime of missing front licence plate should never go unpunished.

So much speeding, tail gating, aggressive driving, cell phone use, HOV lane hogs, etc. on the roads. Why pick on seat belts? Ask any citizen what is top of their list and nobody would say 'seat belts'.

Ah! but seat belts don't help if your hit on the side.
People get the wrong idea that seat belts work in all situations.
