TONIGHT: Council takes up phone tax, Minton's

Original post made on Apr 27, 2010

The City Council this evening is expected to make a final vote on a controversial proposal for 200 apartments at 455 W. Evelyn Ave., a portion of which the developer now says could be affordable housing. The council will also consider a new tax on interstate and international phone calls from Mountain View in hopes of receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in new revenue.

Heaven forbid we actually make meaningful cut. Let's just keep taxing people instead!

When oh when will Govt. learn to CUT Expenses, instead of Tax Tax Tax.

They now get $25.00 from every person (women, children and men) (1.9 million) from phone useage. It is insane to just keep looking for more sources of money instead of looking for places to save. I say give them a "No More Taxes" pledge to sign, and to Vote OUT any of them that won't do it. My Gawd guys, get the Picture. !!!

Humm..... I once thought that only Congress had the power to regulate (tax) Interstate Commerce. The top Google search contained these words from chief Justice Marshall:

But, today, ''commerce'' in the constitutional sense, and hence ''interstate commerce,'' covers every species of movement of persons and things, whether for profit or not, across state lines, 585 every species of communication, every species of transmission of intelligence, whether for commercial purposes or otherwise, 586 every species of commercial negotiation which will involve sooner or later an act of transportation of persons or things, or the flow of services or power, across state lines. 587

So, it sure seems stretch that we think we can just go ahead and tax interstate commerce -- and particularly international commerce.

Let's find another way to balance the budget.

No more taxes. Cut expenses for a change. These people never learn.

Simple Soultion:

Pay more income taxes.

More money has been printed lately and is in circulation or someone’s pocket.

These dollars have been gathered up by the wealthy without being taxed (Fed. & St. income taxes).

A simple solution for the idiots that keep calling for less taxes.

Increase Fed. & St. income taxes and then the money will flow down like it did before, to every government agency (Cites, Schools, Hospitals, Caltrain, Highway Dept., etc.).

There were no serious deficits back then. (Governed cut vehicle taxes that would seriously cut the State deficit in the folowing years.)

Then program cuts can be implemented on those things that are not of value.
