Pets flood local shelters during hard times

As head of Palo Alto Animal Services, Sandi Stadler has a unique perspective on how the recession is hurting Peninsula residents. More than ever before, she says, people are abandoning their pets at the shelter because they can no longer afford to keep them.

A truly heartbreaking story, indeed. If you are considering getting a pet PLEASE think about adoption instead of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a designer dog!

And please...before having childeren yourself, consider adopting one of the kids in foster care today. It's equally silly to bring in another person onto this planet when there is already plenty available for adoption.
