What are people from Man Jose and Oaktown doing at Monte Carlo nightclub? There are other hip hop gangsta clubs at either location.
Either way. The should definitely close this place down. It doesnt belong.

Please close this club! There are fights there all the time. People leave the club driving drunk, and there have been multiple incidents here.

Lot of these people who come to these clubs, are here mainly to start a fight and establish their territory. I am sure there are lots of bad things happening in this club and the other pubs around there. Every club needs to have heavy security to curb this violence and give specific and clear warning to people who come in big groups, irrespective of whatever race they may be. Mountain View used to be a better place without all these clubs and pubs and I hope they close down all these unnecessary and lot of revenue generating junk. Its only matter of time before some innocent person(s) becomes a victim of random shootings or even, there is a chance of mass shooting by gangs.

As long as we have the ghetto (monte carlo) in Mountain View ~ the ghetto will come here. What happened to 3 strikes and your out? WHY is this useless business still here???????

Same thing...scumbags from Oakland and San Jose involved in a brawl. Can't they stay were they belong?

"Ghetto" "Gangster" "Hip Hop" "Scumbags" "Thugs"

Please, tell us what you really think! I love the fact that most of you probably have never been to Monte Carlo and have no plans to go. You just want it shut down so you can sleep easier at night? I don't even go there, but when I read these comments I can't help but read through to your stereotypes and judgements.

"Can't they stay where they belong?"

Who's "they"? And where do "they" belong?

Maybe they should invest in security. Most clubs with histories of fights hire security guards. Their presense alone thwarts a lot of senseless crap like this. I think the building is jinxed. The owner of the property doesn't seem to care. Remember when it was a movie theatre? Oh yes, the good old days are long gone.

Bruno - so that you can sleep better at night, would you "feel better" if we observed the acting out at this establishment "misguided intellectuals"

@ letsgetreal

LOL, observe? I'm not asking you to observe anything. Maybe people should just go on with their lives and stop making a huge deal out of one dumb person who decided to start a fight.

As a matter of fact, you saying "misguided intellectuals" is only further proof of your prejudice via sarcasm. I'm not one to openly judge an entire club full of people that I don't know. Maybe you have some sort of concept or insight you'd like to share with the rest of us?

In these times, the Monte Carlo could be useful as a cash cow for the city. Concentrating a few MVPD units there on the weekend to write citations for public intoxication and any other infractions they can come up with would be a fine way to generate much-needed revenue at the expense of out-of-towners.

When I was a young lad in Mt.View there where many, many, shady bars to choose from. Does anyone remember the Manhole cover on Castro? Or Flips Cottage? Or the 101 club? How bout JJ's blues cafe next to Walgreens. Or maybe Saint James Infermery? Even the Sports Page was a biker bar before the yuppys. How bout Ron's Farm house. My favorite was the Frog Pond at the Old Mill,Jeez one bar with a little trouble, get over it. If it bothers you, stay home.Hey people, let's hear about your old Mountain View bar hangouts! Its ok, your kids won't read this, and we won't tell..

Does anyone know what procedural hoops would have to be jumped through (petition the City Council, perhaps?) to get this place closed down? Forget about the "good old days" of sleazy bars in Mtn. View, and having to pay cops overtime on weekends makes no sense either. This club no longer fits into current day Mtn. View's Castro street profile - let's shut it down and replace it with something that can generate revenue (i.e. taxes) without attracting a bunch of drunks, brawlers, gang-bangers, etc.

@ Jim,

I realize that painting the patrons of Monte Carlo as "sleazy drunks, brawlers and gang-bangers" makes sense to you, but it seems to me like you're just making sweeping judgements on complete strangers.

Convince me why you're right.

What is all this talk about prejudices, making judgements and stereotypes? It is because of their behavior which continues in the fashion it does that these 'stereotypes' keep getting reinforced and proven to be accurate.

Lets just cut the crap. Everybody reading this page knows the type of people who are responsible for the great majority of these incidents. These people will never get their act together.

i am a latino in my 30s. homeowner with a mortgage in old MV.

my thoughts. san jose, oaktown, thugs, hip-hop. stop playing a race card people. these places, activities and tastes have no race. some white, black, hispanic, philipino, japanese folks all like or hate them.

my thoughts on the club. it's had a lot of problems. time to put the owners on notice. if it doesn't shape up, then shut it down. that would happen to any business with these problems.

Would it? Because there's fights ALL THE TIME across the street at the two Irish bars, yet this club is constantly getting the attention. Did you know that Mountain View has a "No Hip-Hop Shows" ordinance in the city? Recently a friend of mine tried to set up a hip-hop show in downtown MV and was denied. Makes some glad doesn't it? One of the featured artists on the bill recently released an album with his mother who is a folk singer. How scary!

Bruno. There is no race factor in these discussion

Simple - Every saturday night there is an arrest most likely invovling possession of gun or mugging on the street. Please read archived mv-voice reports. Sleazy bar or not there is serious concern of public saftey in downtown late friday or saturday night due to this club. Most likely a bullet is going to hit one of the bystanders and at that point all this discussion will be mute.

When we go out - we make sure to leave downtown before 11 PM out of safety concern that shouldn't be the case. Please stop making this a race issue its a saftey issue and the ability for everyone to enjoy beautiful MV downtown on the weekends.

I've actually never mentioned race. I did mentioned stereotyping and making sweeping generalizations however.

Show me the last arrest for gun possession downtown in the MV Voice archive. It should be easy for you to find, since you said it happens every week.

If you leave downtown before 11 then I feel sorry for you really. You shouldn't let your fears dictate your evening, especially in a city as safe as Mountain View.

Love the Sports Page! The lunch deals are pretty good, and sometimes you can get free chips.

Have the people throwing out "stereotype" etc ever been down there on a Friday or Saturday. AFTER 11pm folks....

You sound like the Lytton Plaza people who had the mantra of "ooh but its so nice I have lunch there every day"

No doubt they never were that at night to see it full of discarded paper cups, pizza boxes, beer cans and random teens working as bag men for dopers.
