The sorry state of education

Original post made on Apr 3, 2010

It was disheartening to read last week's Voice story about how four busloads of Foothill College students journeyed to Sacramento to protest budget cuts that have decimated their curriculum and teaching staff — probably with more to come.

A-B=C?

A ("the Foothill students, most of whom live in Mountain View and nearby cities, skipped studying for a day")

-

B ("For many on the bus trip, a community college education was their ticket out of a world plagued by poverty and crime.")

=

C (So because funds have been slashed, these students will be stuck living in Mountain View--a city plagues by poverty and crime? Wow! I didn't realize we were so poor off.)

A little over the top wouldn't you say?

Serious question (I don't know the answer). Is this literally a cut to their budgets or is it that their budget is not being increased as much as expected?
