Yeah, no kidding. Why should any one volunteer when the city hires recent retirees at over $100 an hour because they are so "irreplaceable". I'm tired of this blackmail by city hall.

I'll volunteer to do this one's job:

Karen Burnett, Library Services Director, has served Mountain View for more than eight years as Director. She increased the range and depth of library services for the City by establishing the Teen Services Program; creating the Computer Training Center; expanding Children's and Youth staff; identifying and implementing new technologies and efficiency enhancements; and increasing the materials budget to expand the type and quantity of a variety of popular materials within the City's collection. Karen used her significant experience in leading the Library Services Department and meeting a variety of goals to meet the needs of residents. During her tenure, she also implemented innovated Library programs like the high-tech, energy-efficient Library vehicle (bookmobile), as well as the enhancements and upgrades to the Library to ensure it keeps pace with the 21st Century, including introducing state-of-the-art technology into the Library, such as an automated materials handling system that checks in and sorts out returned items; a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for self-service check-out and return of materials; and E‑commerce and enhanced on‑line features. Karen also developed an innovative Police Assistant program, a joint undertaking with the Police Department, to establish Police Assistants who provide both security and support in the Library, as well as an opportunity for community policing and community outreach. In addition to these accomplishments, Karen's expertise has been recognized State-wide with service on the California Library Association (CLA) and appointments to various CLA committees and she served as President of Califa and the Chair of the Silicon Valley Library System Administrative Council, as well as an Executive Committee member of the Pacific Library Partnership.
