I certainly hope Mountain View is working with Google on this as well.

Agreed, Mountain View already benefits from the wireless Google network. There may be advantages to Google using the same population set and working with familiar government contacts for the fiber optic venture.

Why wouldn't Mtn View apply to have high-speed fiber-optic networks in our city????

and the cost to the city will be....?
Let see how much interest there is when Google gives some kind of cost estimate. The idea isn't new but who will pay has been the biggest issue; an issue that is still a total unknown in this particular case.

This high speed network should be in Mountain View first, I hope the city government can quickly make a successful proposal.

USA is a registered user.
Maybe the city could take the money it would have wasted on the Day Worker Center to directly pay day workers to trench and lay fiber. It's a win-win situation.

Mountain View deserves Google fiber more than any community on earth. More than half its employees call the Googleplex home. Fiber in our homes would be a powerful incentive for more Google employees to live in town, thus reducing commute traffic that clogs both our streets and our air. Wouldn't it be great if Google employees rode bikes to work? Pretty easy from any place in town.
Probably would help our property values, too.
I have nominated Mountain View on the Google site, have you? It was easy. Web Link
