While it would be nice to be "green" (whatever that is), and to have lots of nicer buildings.... Absent some huge growth, we don't need more rooms.

No, they will never get the message. They should learn to do more with less tax revenue rather than less with more.

"Absent some huge growth, we don't need more rooms." There is huge growth coming. The district knows that it will have a huge increase in students, starting with this year's 6th grade classes in the elementary districts. They are more fortunate than the elementary districts in that they don't have to use demographic projections to guess what their student population will be - they just look at MVWSD and LASD and see who is coming through the pipeline, so they have advance warning of enrollment changes like this.

They expect hundreds more students for each of Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools by the time those 6th graders are Seniors--like adding the population of one of the local elementary schools on each high school campus. They do not currently have the space to house that many students. And the "green" part -- solar panels over the parking lots, etc. -- will save hundreds of thousands of dollars in operating costs, which will then be available to spend on school programs. This will be extremely valuable as funding is continually decreasing for education.

With class size reduction going away, you won't need more classrooms. You can put more students in less. So which is it? Do we need more classrooms, or will there be more students in each class allowing extra classrooms to come available.
