sending them to prison is a waste of time and money. use them to do some real community work and let them repay the soceity instead of the soceity spending more money by putting them in prison. Let them do community work for 5 years. That will teach the other kids a real lesson.

i did something eerily similar when i was 17. same scenario almost identically, my two "accomplices" where 16 and 18. we smashed through a couple neighborhoods graffiting on walls and broke into cars and 1 houuse. point being- i served 6 months with REAL criminals in jail, and 6 months on house arrest. it was my first "case"- and i had a $5,000 lawyer. the 16 year old was not heard from again (at least by me) and the 18 year old served 1 year. anyway sad situation and these kids un fortunatley might get off to easy because of there age and the fact there acts were not violent. by the way im 32 and productive member of society. wrong crowd wrong situation and you never know what you can get into.....

No doubt they were high on drugs when they did it, cuz kids just don't do this without getting high first.

The parents should pay for all the damage and these stupid kids should have to clean up some dump sites and dirty creeks. The neighbors should join together and sue these families. If my dog let loose and destroyed someone's yard, then I would be responsible for the damage and loss.

Their age should not matter.
These dumb kids should be given 1,000 hours of community service.
If that is "too much", well, there is always prison. These vandals should get 3 years in jail.

Yes, a year ((or two) abroad as an exchange student in Haiti would fit the bill! Seriously. Is it thinking too far outside the box to imagine that the school district could establish some kind of study abroad with community service in someplace less cushy than Japan or Germany?

A caution to readers, please remember that there are HUNDREDS of polite, respectful, hard-working, really terrific college-bound students at MV-LA high schools...and lots of students at Alta Vista who are working hard to get on the right path.

Whether you have students of your own or not, please do stop by a basketball game, theatre production, music performance, or other event to see what really GOOD kids are up to.
