This country is looking more and more like an out of control lawless third world country. Use your second amendment while you still can and arm yourselves. Pretty soon this state will be placing rfid tags even on the guns we buy. Those that are smart enough are looking ahead and realizing all the possible outcomes of this nation. Like all great empires, it is bound to get corrupt and eventually fall. Dont be afraid of the future but instead greet it and live everyday as it were your last. Please read your history and study western civilization cuz we might not have one, or at least not in America.

The Mtn View police department is too busy harassing people by giving speeding tickets and other minor traffic violations that they are unable to catch these criminals. How hard is it, especially in a small city, to track them down? I think they need to call big brother, FBI, to assist in this crime spree.

2nd Amendment -

I think our goverment/empire is already corrupt. I wish it were bound to fail so that we could start again with a clean slate; however, I really think it has enough hold that it will keep going after it weathers this current monetary deficit.

The news here though is clear; the police do their job very well, but when seconds count, they are minutes away. An armed citizen can stop this nonsense, save him- or her- self, and actually deter these types of crimes from happening in the first place.

Until we can arm ourselves legally, it is open season on the law abiding guys in Mountain View, and the bad guys know it.

What is going on here in Mountain View?
To we have better, quicker reporting? A year ago I would not have known about this string of crimes because I wasn't subscribing to the Voice Online or to the MVPD email crime report. For people who do not get this daily report, MV seems just the same. So I wonder if this is a new, more frequest crime wave or if this is the same as always with newer technology to bring us this more-frequesnt and more-detailed information. If, in fact, we are experiencing an upsurge in crime, then I hope it would be featured in the hard-copy voice that is received in the mail each week. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your comment. Reports on the recent string of robberies are always included in our print edition, although this particular story will run next week. We hope to include a more in-depth report on the seeming increase in robberies that have occurred recently in the city. Police have agreed it is a spike, and said they are working on it--though they cannot give out information that will jeopardize their investigation.

First off, thank you reporting on this string of robberies! It is very worrying and we Mountain View residents appreciate hearing about it so we can be extra careful.

Second, let's keep things in perspective. The sky is not falling -- violent crime is. Violent crime per capita in California has fallen every year since 1991 and in Mountain View every year since 1997. We are now down to levels of violent crime last seen in 1972. Source: http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov

Cool off, take a deep breath. Get away from stereotyping a particular community/race. Each and every citizen, including you and me, needs to be vigilant and help police catch the perpetrators

Mountain View Police are bottom feeders, always picking on the the little stuff and and not looking for the 'real' crime makers. Hey MVPD, stop with the parking tickets, sillly moving citations and picking on teenagers for NO reason and go after the real crooks.

And last year I heard about a black guy who scammed investors of billions of dollars in a ponzi scheme, and then there were those black investment bankers who almost destroyed the world economy, and those Hispanic dudes at Enron, and that purple president who started an illegal war and .. ah anyhow, what a beautiful world it would be if everybody was white!

The real crimes are taking in place in City Hall and at the School District where public employees are robbing us all blind with plumped up salaries and retirement packages. The stories on local crime is just part of a larger conspiracy to take are attention away from far more serious and costly crimes and corruption.

As i said before......other cities around Mountain View are taking action on street crime. Adding more street patrols and I.D.ing anyone who looks out of place. Let me ask all of Mountain View.... How many times in the past months have you seen someone walking the streets that you thought didn't look right. Please, don't let Oakland move there crime to Mountain View.

Then go up to University Ave in palo alto so you can be hassled by the panhandlers. and see all the garbage all over the place. At least PAPD has done a better job of keeping the dope dealers and random abusive homeless out of their new little jewel, Lytton Plaza II.

Well, dave, the so called "abusive homeless" people have been observed carrying cell phones and phoning other homeless on where to panhandle. If you own a cell phone, you are not homeless, you are just a lazy bum. For those of you who count on your local law enforcement to protect you, remember that calling 911 can take several minutes, Smith and Wesson respond immediately. Not that I recommend that everybody buy a gun, but when if law enforcement appears to be unable to protect us, we will start to protect ourselves (I agree with Paul_C).

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Police have arrested one man in connection with a string of armed robberies in Mountain View this month, including one at a 7-Eleven store Saturday night, a spokeswoman said.

Derreck Stamper, 20, of Newark, was arrested after a police chase that spanned into East Palo Alto when a K-9 unit and his handler, a Mountain View police officer, apprehended him, police spokeswoman Liz Wylie said.

Stamper was believed to have been involved in at least three of six robberies that occurred in Mountain View this month, she said.

All six of the robberies have similar suspect descriptions and were committed in similar fashions, and authorities believe they are being committed by the same suspects, according to Wylie.

Stamper was one of three men to rob the 7-Eleven store Saturday night, she said. The other two remain at large.

Each of the six robberies in Mountain View this month involved two or three men dressed in black and carrying small handguns, Wylie said.
