As a long time Mountain View resident and Medical Marijuana patient I hope to have open in the next few months(in Mountain View or close) The Shoreline Wellness Collective. This will be a not for profit organization that will benefit the communities of Mountain View and its surrounding area by providing safe and affordable access to Medical Marijuana for qualified patients. The Collective will pay all associated business taxes to help fill both local and state coffers.Then the best part for Mountain View will be when all the proceeds are turned over any and all excess funds will be distributed to LOCAL charities and other non profit organizations that support our community.

As a long time mountain view resident and part of our local association. I feel this topic is a very touchy subject. I am a medical marijuana patient and have been for the last 7 years. I believe that if a corporation is operating under proper guidance and under state and city laws there should be no problem with allowing it. I fully support a dispensary.

The best place for this dispensary should be on the El Camino Real, next to the Fatty Zone and the Tattoo Parlor, just like a one stop shop area in one convenient location. The Happy House parking lot proved to be a dangerous location. Pesky rolling gun battles on the ECR should be confined to one place to give the police a tactical edge on the marijuana trade inside the city limits. Seriously….

Well done... An intellectual discussion about a Medical Cannabis facility locally. We are surrounded by some of the most brilliant minds that exist in the world, it is about time that this happened. Santa Clara County's population surpasses Wyoming, Vermont, and Alaska, combined. Our population is greater than that of 15 states in the union! Our patient base here is quite obviously enormous. Every individual city should have multiple access points for their residents who are patients. Any professionally run non-profit cannabis center would operate virtually undetected. Crime rates and youth usage have substantially declined since the enactment of Medical Marijuana in 1997 and the statistics are similar in all MMJ states. There are patients here with MS, Cancer, Insomnia, Social Anxiety, Digestive Disorders, Anti Anxiety, Glaucoma, AIDS, Asthma, Eating Disorders, Migraines, Schizophrenia, Epilepsy, Brain Injuries, PTSD, IBD, Crones, and other physical or mental disorders who can benefit remarkably from Cannabis and who could utilize the benign plant as an alternative to the prescription drugs that are accompanied by detrimental side-effects. Lets say NO to SUFFERING by saying YES to Cannabis! "The best place for this dispensary should be on the El Camino Real, next to the Fatty Zone and the Tattoo Parlor" This location is too close to St. Joseph Elementary School and perhaps Castro School as well. East of 101 appears to be the only area that is outside of the 1,000 foot boundary. Then again, didnt Mountain View allow a gun shop within 750 feet of Bubb School???? Be well...

Thank you for some real intellectual facts on this subject. People need to be enlightened on This subject and not turn a blind eye towards it. I have been a medical marijuana patient ( 5 years) and suffer from cancer. I have taken all the over the counter medicine for years prior to cannabis and determined I just cant handle the side effects. Cannabis has no side effects on me and helps me junction with everyday life. Im 65 years old and lived in Mountain View for 20 years. How can a gun shop be allowed down the street from a school? The city allows guns in the city but not medicine? Eddies gun shop was robbed some years back by young local children. Where do you think these guns went? The Mountain View city streets and surrounding neighborhoods. I would love to see this organization open with the intent to provide for the safety and health of the local community but better off by helpig the M.V. local patient base receive the medicine. Interesting how a regulated item such as Firearms is compared here. Let me clear up some facts about Mountain View and Eddy's Sport Shop. Just so happens My Grandfather was Eddy and started his Sporting goods business in 1950 moving from San Francisco. He passed away from Cancer in the early '70's when I was a young boy . My Father then ran the Sporting goods store converting it to a specialty "gun store" in 1978, donating a lot of sporting equipment to the MV Little League, MV Dolphins and other local sporting organizations. From 1950 to 2002 there were many Burglar's but thank god no Robber's. The Mountain View High school students(aged 16-18) that Burglarized the Eddy's in the late '90's were caught and all firearms ,most of which were my Fathers personal Firearms from a back room, were recovered.
There is no local ordinance, State or Federal law requiring a gun shop to be 1000 ft from a school, that I am aware of. I Successfully moved Eddy's Sport Shop in Oct 1999 from 889 Castro/ECR to 825 ECR /Castro. Both locations close to St. Josephs an Graham Middle. This should not be of concern. Whatever we are talking about Guns, Medical Marijuana, Alcohol, Pornography! All which can be found on the ECR with in walking distance, is education. I was taught to shoot firearms at a fairly young age and feel all children should be trained to handle firearms young as well. This prevents misuse and accidents by being educated.Shooting Sports are a lot safer then other sports for potential injury. Can a Conservative Republican run a Medical Marijuana Collective? Who would be better suited to make sure all the T's are crossed and the I's dotted? Taxes are important, that's how our government works. I would like to see everyone be happy and healthy.

Botanical herbs and teas arent taxed unless they are consumed on the premises or sold hot, nor are prescription drugs taxed...but lets tax Cannabis right?????? Lets exploit the patients and their conditions right?!?!! Applying a tax on the already expensive medication that isnt covered by insurance companies to fill the holes in our roadways is a brilliant idea!!! we're definitely standing on admirable ground if we enforce such a tax!!! These people have certain serious conditions that require taking medication daily, lets take advantage of that!! Some call it a hardship when a person has a disability or disorder and is forced to take medication every day, we're calling it fun and taxable!!! Its apparently "socially acceptable" to seek out the ill patients, some of who are terminal, and stick it to them before they get better or die!!! This is disgusting, who are we??? barbarians???!!!

Whoever is considering taxing patients I implore you to consider the legitimacy of such a tax. Taxing the Cannabis implies it is for recreational use and is NOT medicine. Hardships exempt, luxuries taxed. Do not do the patients an injustice by applying tax ontop of the price of their medication. Some might conclude that the tax accumulated would make Medical Cannabis more "socially acceptable"..I quite frankly find it appalling, irresponsible, and immoral. Peace be with you all.
