yes! this is great news, im sorry Jess Santana's plans didnt pan out so well. bringing a homeless shelter to a beautiful city like mountain view would be counter productive and a step backwards for all of us and our city. having such a BIG building dedicated to homeless would only draw more homeless to the area and where do you think these would congregate during the day? yes around the city! have you seen the filth and nastiness that homeless bring with them? i cant believe the responses of people in Jess Santana's thread suggesting that this was a good idea! this article makes my day and i hope puts Jess' ideas on how to help support people who put forth no effort to rest for ever!

People are homeless for all sorts of reasons. Some are mentally incompetent and probably should be institutionalized. Some have chemical dependencies. A few are homeless willingly -- "put forth no effort," as you put it -- and they don't ask for anything from anybody except to be left alone so it all works out.

Many, especially lately, are just down on their luck and trying to bounce back. Santana is among this group.

Some people, apparently you among them, are philosophically offended by the idea that plain old luck can affect our lives so deeply - that somebody can do everything right and still hit the skids. They want to believe that everybody on earth DESERVES exactly what they get. This must be comforting to you, but it simply is not how the world works.

Whatever you believe, the point is that even if that building isn't the best place for a shelter, or even if you think there shouldn't be one in Mountain View, you don't have to be a jerk about it.

I am speachless. Smart move by a not so smart crew.

I hope Sean doesn't lose his job and then get sick and need very expensive medications. Any one of us could end up homeless. I count my blessings that I've been fortunate so far.

weather i agree of disagree has no bearing on weather or not a homeless shelter is built- so who really cares? just my opinion. im 29 year old 50 hour day worker who has raised his family in MV and i would hate to see this city succomb to things. thats it.

From my experience being a landlord, I know that good tenants would move out when bad tenant move in the same neigborhood. For people who had little experience dealing with homeless, they find it quite frightening when they were approached by homeless people. No parents feel comfortable letting their kids walking on the street filled with homeless. When local resident feel that the area is not safe, they will move to another safe neighborhood.

Homeless people are not bad people, but they normally look very different. Their behavior is a bit strange (under the influence of you know what). Most of them choose to be homeless for verious reasons. It's the freedom of their choice. We should respect that their desire to live on the street.

East Palo Alto is a better place for homeless. With the same amount of money, the city can buy a building a few times bigger than the "Middlefield One".

For people who would like to gain political advancement, building homeless shelter on the expense of Mountain View residence (or homeowners) is unethical.

For those of the responsible individuals on the verge of becoming homeless, you should get direct help for job and shelter from the limited MV resource. The shelter should not be built as anybody's second home.

The tax payer money is better spent on responsible individaul or families who are struggle finacially (--on the verge of becoming homeless), is better spent on helpping our local education system that can keep our kids from becoming homeless one day, is better spent on keeping local public workers employed......

Why are we wasting very limited resource on a project that can provide Zero benifit to all the mountain view homeowners and little benifit to most of the renters. Yes, people still need to give. A check to the "Food Bank" will alway help giving homeless an instant satisfaction.
