Exhibition of Ceramic Sculptures by Pancho Jimenez at CSMA Opens Friday, December 11

Original post made by csma, another community, on Dec 1, 2009

The Community School of Music and Arts (CSMA) at Finn Center in Mountain View presents Ceramic Sculptures by Francisco “Pancho” Jimenez. Works will be on exhibit in CSMA’s Mohr Gallery from December 11, 2009 through January 24, 2010, with an opening reception and artist talk on Friday, December 11, 6-8 pm.

The exhibition will present recent works by the artist and will include a combination of free-standing, small tabletop, and wall-mounted sculptures. Jimenez’s work takes inspiration from ancient art, much of it in ruins, found in Mexico and throughout the world. “In my art I attempt to capture the mystery of meaning, that eternal presence of ancient art forms, which elicit particular emotions that may be universal and timeless,” says Jimenez. In creating art, he creates forms that bring that presence of the past to the present, to inspire reflection on contemporary time and place. The catalyst that always propels his work is his desire to explore his primary medium, clay, in varied and technically challenging formats. Jimenez's work has been shown nationally in both solo and group shows. He teaches art at Santa Clara University and West Valley College.

CSMA’s Mohr Gallery is located at Finn Center, 230 San Antonio Circle, Mountain View, and is open Mon-Fri, 9 am-7 pm and Sat, 9 am-3 pm. The Friday, December 11 exhibition opening reception and artist talk with Pancho Jimenez (6-8 pm) is free and open to the public.
