It was often theorized if 1,000 monkeys were placed in front of typewriters they'd recreate the works of Shakespere; the internet disproves this theory everyday.

National Public Radio has a related story on this with about 6 minutes of audio, including interviews with Charley Kline (UCLA) and Bill Duvall (SRI) who sent and received that first message.
