Another reminder to everyone to lock your doors and windows. Unfortunately it seems crime is on the rise in MV.

I just finished cleaning my guns, but I'm not about to start sleeping in drag.

Those of you disinclined towards firearms might want to keep a can of wasp spray handy.

Having taken a tactical handgun training class, I will bet serious money that the vast majority of people couldn't safely or effectively use a gun as a defensive weapon. The skills just aren't there without constant practice.

"In both cases a woman in her 30s was rudely awakened... . "Rudely awakened"!?! So, a burglar might have politely awakened these women?
Does anyone edit these articles?

Quite apart from the question of competence in using a gun there is the question of who it will actually be used on. The information below is from the Brady Campaign.

____________________________________________________________________________________
DID YOU KNOW? A gun in the home is more likely to be used in a homicide, suicide, or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense.

Every time a gun injures or kills in self-defense, it is used:

11 times for completed and attempted suicides (Kellermann, 1998, p. 263).
7 times in criminal assaults and homicides, and
4 times in unintentional shooting deaths or injuries.

I suggest that you lock the door. Strange sounds? Call the cops. If you're really scared, get a burglar alarm. Motion detection devices are cheap.

John A needs to do his homework. Here's a good place to start:

A shotgun is a fine home defense weapon requiring little skill, but a 17 ounce can of Ortho Home Defense foaming wasp & hornet spray will do the job if you're the kind of person who thinks a gun might jump up and shoot you on its own.

Police: Florida man accidentally shoots and kills fiancee day before wedding
WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Police say a Florida man who thought there was an intruder in his house shot and killed his fiancee the day before they were to get married.
Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Brunelle says the shooting appears to be a "tragic accident," but investigators were waiting for forensic results.
Sixty-two-year-old John Tabutt (ta-bit) told investigators he thought he heard an intruder early Friday morning, got his gun and fired at a figure in the dark hallway.
He struck his live-in fiancee, 62-year-old Nancy Dinsmore. Family members say the couple planned to get married Saturday in a small ceremony.
Tabutt said he thought she was next to him in bed the whole night. He has not been charged.

(locks, bolts, alarms, dogs, but no guns)
