Man stabbed, arrest made at Century 16

Original post made on Oct 5, 2009

Police say a 25-year-old San Jose man was stabbed in the stomach and the heart Friday night as late-night movies were letting out of the Century 16 theaters at Shoreline. An 18-year-old from Sunnyvale was arrested and charged with the crime.

The parking lot needs a lot more lights and definitely cameras. If you can't get a police officer to patrol on foot at least Friday and Saturday nights then maybe an empty police car at the theater to deter any crime would be a good idea.

"...as police spokesperson Liz Wylie said, the immigration status question isn't even on the county booking form." -- Web Link

Sigh. Well at least this idiot did something that will now trigger that question.

(Don, if Mtn View acts like a sanctuary city and quacks like a sanctuary city, it a sanctuary city even if city hall as not proclaimed it. The ducks are coming home to roost, so to speak.)

Oh please, if the suspect had an Asian surname like me, would you immediately bring up the person's immigration status? So if half the people in CA have a Latino surname, you are going to suspect every one of them as being here illegally? Did you know that there are actually people in the US who are here illegally that are NOT Latino?

What leapt out at me about this story is the good work done by the dog who found both the bad guy and the weapons! Let's hear it for the MVPD and the K-9 unit!

Robin -- Actually, I was looking at the issue of the high incidence of gang activity among recent and illegal immigrants. Why is that you felt you needed to bring race into the issue?

Guess I will be going to movies at Santana Row from now on. I am so sick of hearing about these juvenile delinquents who have too much time on their hands and are up to no good. Let's re-open vocational high schools, give these guys a trade and so that they have something to lose. We never read about plumbers or auto mechanics getting into trouble, they are too busy making money.

Sounds like police dog is earning his keep, kudos to Fido.

Well, Robin probably felt the need to bring in race because USA, near as can be told, never comments on crime incidents that involve unidentified or non-Hispanic perps...

In any case, the job of the local police department isn't to deal with federal crimes. If it would make USA feel better, perhaps we could just federalize law enforcement?

Dr. Click -- I suppose the I could point out that commentary on crimes by whites is more of a rarity due to fewer crimes committed by whites in Mtn View, but that certainly would give rise to a cacophony from the PC crowd.

kathy -- In Los Angeles, the high school drop out rate is 50%. That means that at a time when master degree are increasingly required for professional jobs, half of the people entering the work force in Los Angeles do not even have a high school diploma.

I like the idea of vocational schools. There is no shame in it. Plumbing and carpentry are good, honest jobs that need to be filled for a balanced, sustainable economy.

Mountain View is getting more and more racist by the day.

It should not suprise anyone that crime goes up when respect for others goes down.

I was the bystander and I am Mexican (and proud of it) and I would have helped anyone no matter what their race was including the very uneducated and idiotic resident of the comment above who lives in the Questa area.

@Robin

No one would question your Asian name in a similar manner. You know why? Because no Asian country or group of countries supplies more than 50% of our legal immigrants and an even higher percentage of our illegals, like Mexico does. No Asian country or group of Asian countries sit right on our border, like Mexico. No Asian country has been a repeatedly documented safe harbor for large number of criminals within hours of committing crimes in California, like Mexico has been. Finally, Mountain View gangs are Surenos, affiliates of MS-13, which is based in Central America and very much an international organization.
Enough facts there to make you question your knee-jerk ideology yet?

It's really a shame that Mountain View is no longer as safe and beautiful as it used to be. The main problem here is that these people are not educated enough to see what they are doing not only to themselves, but to the people around them. Illegal or not, they are making extremely poor decisions in their lives and it's affecting the rest of the planet. If they cannot live like civil human beings, then maybe the rest of us who are educated can. Instead of ranting about how much you hate illegals.. why don't you do something about it and donate your extra time to cleaning up the city. I don't like these imbeciles and wish that people could stop acting stupid.. but it ain't gonna happen SOO instead of wasting your time and energy yelling at a computer, get up and help stop crime. I know it sounds cliche and stupid to most of you, but seriously we need to stop depending on everyone else to clean up the city. The police already try their best to patrol around and help out but there is only so much they can do. Hopefully, we can work together and do something about it.. otherwise, expect more of this crap to happen!!

aks- you want people to pitch in and volunteer to clean up the city? Why? Laws exist to be enforced, and the police ignore them when if come to the illegal barrios in this town, but the police love to jump all over a group of citizens having a party. And now you appeal for everyone to come together? To do what exactly?

Let's stop the name calling and agree on one thing: there is KNOWN criminal element that exists in MV and frequents Shoreline. There is also a gang problem. Where was law enforcement? They dropped the ball AGAIN. After 2 innocent women were tasered and robbed, there was no police presence the very next weekend. In addition, the security guard should have called the cops DURING the movie when the troublemakers were inside. He obviously didn't give them enough incentive to "break it up" and couldn't handle it on his own. MVPD needs to patrol places where gangs feel in control and take their violence, like the Rengstorff community center and the theater.
Our police force is GROSSLY OVERPAID and they are not earning their keep by ensuring public safety!! Police Chief Scott Vermeer made $226,777 K in 2008 (PA Daily Post, 4/7/2009, public record). Police Seargent Kenneth Leal made $202,002. Three others earned in the $190's. Three more in the $170s. Do they leave their Villa Street HQ to ever drive around the streets of MV, which, as some have remarked, aren't as safe anymore? I think we pay them enough to do so!!
Call or write the City Council, the Mayor, the City Manager (Kevin Duggan, $247,000 in 2008), and LET THEM KNOW you want to live in a decent, safe community and you are ALREADY PAYING for it, you want to know WHY these people aren't doing their jobs, checking the records of those who frequent dark places wearing gang colors, starting arguments, etc. The police should ENFORCE the law on the turf of those who break it.

What is this mentality where a person gets angry and then 2 hours later is still angry enough to stab someone? I am not defending "heat of the moment" crimes, but you'd think a person would have time to reflect and "cool off" after 2 hours. But no, this person sat there and just let his petty little anger fester and boil. Throw the book at him. I don't care about prison overcrowding. I just don't want people like this wandering around a city that we all work so hard to live in and pay taxes to enjoy. The trend of violence is escalating and the moral conscience is becoming extinct.

I'm sick and tired of these gang bangers!!! Lock them up, make them work their a**es off in jail and make them clean up our streets!! These stupid, uneducated losers need to be off of the streets right away! They are so selfish and think they can do whatever they want in the world.. no no no.. you're going to get caught sooner or later... Maybe we should give all these criminals a lobotomy and then send them off to Death Valley...??? yes.. I think that might scare the other gang bangers.

I find it absolutley appaling that out of this ONE ARTICLE the comments and remarks being made are those of actual citizens of the USA. How ignorant can one be to take the MEDIA articles at their word. You have no idea what transpired, only what you read in this very ONE sided article. The victim is the victim of a crime no doubt but no one has questioned if this VICTIM was the aggressor or if THIS VICTIM is an illegal and KNOWN gang member who sat at theatre waiting for the suspect or if the SUSPECT is even in a gang or has ever been in in ANY trouble EVER BEFORE!

Society needs to step back from the blame game and hear the true reality and facts of the matter. Has any one ever heard of the wrong place wrong time scenario? has anyone of you who are posting these comments ever been put in a situation and fear for your life?

gangs are a known problem here and virtually anywhere and the gangs are of all shades, race and immigration status. what if your son is a good kid and carries some type of legal knife and someone threatens him and it all takes a turn for the worse, would all these ignorant and hateful comments ofend YOU or YOUR FAMILY?

So please take a moment to think before you BLINDLY shoot off some random comments, because if you dont, you are seemingly just as ignorant and guily as any so CALLED SUSPECT, and whats worse you are just a pawn in the medias game to glorify and sensationalize untruths.

Angry at ignorance - you must be furious with yourself.

Poor suspect, he was just a good kid carrying a legal knife and he had never been in any trouble ever before. He should be allowed to stab anyone he wants.

Suspect = scumbag
Victim = probably scumbag too

HENRY- i can only hope that your family never ever goes through such sadness and that if they ever do on either side of the situation that no one calls them scumbags. No one should be allowed to harm anyone ever period...i am furious with ignorant people and reporting. have a great day.

I am mexican and proud of it, but not all mexicans are the same .see
a lot of them come to work hard to make a living, I am against the Imigration issue , but sometimes we need to enforce it big time,I'll have seen a lot of good parents (hard working people) paying for their children bad choices, and let me tell you, they really suffer, why no help them taking away the cancer they carry in their backs and enforce some law.

Sure lock them up but then what they get in with more gang related people and really dont learn anything from it except free room and board. Why not lock them up but at the same time make them take classes for anger and for their education also. Many of the the forgotten children become gang bangers and are only looking for a family but fall into the wrong type of "family". Show them we care about them and see what a difference it makes. Take time out for these" hoodlums" they are all of our brothers and sisters.

Yale graduate student Annie Le, whose body was found stuffed into a 2-foot crawl space behind a wall in a Yale laboratory building.

SUSPECT Raymond CLARK III.

??????????
EDUCATED ?
WEALTHY ?
RACE ?
ILLEGAL?
MOTIVE?

So where are the excuses on that one? Lets stop with the ignorance and make a difference in this world. Doesn't matter where you came from. If you can speak then let your voice be heard to make a difference on a positive note. All you are showing is your ignorance. It's sad to hear that there could be many of you out there.

We went to the movies last Friday and I was surprised by how dark it was in the parking lot. The theater needs to trim the trees in the lot and fix/add more lights. Maybe improving visibility from Shoreline would help too.

I can not agree more with angry & ignorant.
How dare you people condem this person you don't even know!!!!!!!
Well guess what I know the kid who did the stabbing.
He was a good kid with good parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like he got mixed up the the wrong crowed. I have never known this kid to be a so called "Gang Banger" He went to a good school and got a good education. You are all saying he's a high school drop out, not much of a family life. Who the hell are you to say anything without ever having met him, his parents or anyone in his family! I happen to know both his parents and they are great people. They are very loving and caring people who are involved with their kids school and school activities.
Like the person above said Raymond Clark 3rd. White well educated I'm sure perfect parents. So what would you say about him? He's not mexican or black or red or green. He's a white boy. Oh and by the way I am also white. Not that should make any difference at all.
So before you pass judgement on anyone get all the facts first. None of us no all the facts except for the two people involved, the parents and maybe the police. You were not there, you do not know so keep your damn options to yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
