Uggggh, enough already! Find something better to do with your time local bangers. That or imagine your younger brothers and cousins following in your footsteps. This has been going on for decades now and I never hear anyone talking about the positives that come from the lifestyle.

wonder if these are the same 3 troublemakers that held up the women at Shoreline movie theater on Thursday? Police need to play hardball with these guys. Not a good news day for the MV Voice.

I am not surprised by any of these. Too many of these youngsters have really bad parents and that is the reason why we have so many crimes these days. With the economy being down in the dumps, these youngsters are looking for troubles and causing all kings of vanadalism. Next time, any big groups in this community center like this need to pay for security so that the Police can patrol these neighborhoods for the safety of other patrons of this park.

Kathy,

I agree with you; however, once the Police do actually "play hardball", the bloggers on this site complain and complain and complain.

I bet it is hard to be the Police.

Awesome... yet another argument for the city to build a teen center as a city-sponsored venue for stabbings.

Beyond that, this story broke on Saturday and it hits the Voice only today, yet when a bunch of neighbors get together for a drink it's front page news.

Where WERE the cops? Isn't there a single one patroling the one and only Community Center when there is a huge party of 50-75 young people gathering on a weekend night? How many cops were sitting in the Villa Street HQ waiting for something to happen, rather than patroling places where it is obvious that trouble might be brewing? Seems like the police are not very pro-active. Cases in point: the carjacking after the Shoreline concert in the parking lot of multiple fast food vendors at Rengstorff, movie parking lots in the dark, and now our own comm. center when a huge party w/a distruptive bunch of teens is gathering. I don't think there is much of a "presence" or these gansters wouldn't be so bold.

Gee, I'm sure glad the City Council made Mountain View a Sanctuary City like San Francisco and is endorsing illegal work bay illegals! They might as well put out a Welcome mat for gang members.

Maybe these thugs are illegal maybe not. Let's say they are. Your police department's official stance is they will not follow Federal guidelines regarding illegals in the City. If they are illegal, this is a valid reason the local economy isn't doing so well. Why take the chance of going to a movie if there's even a remote chance you'll be caught in the middle of these wannabe gangsters.

If these kids are here legally then the police department needs to take control of the city and eliminate to the best they can the gangs that are here. Many parts of our City are now overrun with these people. The parks aren't safe any longer. I used to take my kids to Rengstorff park but not any longer.

The City Council won't address the issue out of fear of losing a vote. Mountain View is the new San Francisco where you can walk the streets and feel safe if you don't belong here.

Let's not freak out too much here. We can still go to the movies and you can still take your kids to any park in town. Just maybe be more aware past sundown, but then again why would you want to take your kids to the park at night? Mtn. View is still a fantastic place to live and is actually not a "sanctuary city". If you think I'm wrong, find me the proof.

Quoted from this website;

Mountain View Police Chief Scott Vermeer, who introduced himself as the son of an undocumented Mexican immigrant, said his police department has "no role enforcing federal immigration laws ... unless the safety of the general public is at stake."

"Our primary job is to keep the community safe; that includes everyone irrespective of immigration status," Vermeer said. He added that "All emergency services are totally disinterested in immigration status; please pass along that info."

You should have read further in those same links. The editor of this site clearly states that Mtn. View is not a "sanctuary city" and has never declared itself one. If you feel so strongly that our police officers should be asking people for green cards, and helping deport those without them, then bring it up at a city council meeting.

These days I frequently see Hispanic men standing around hawking strawberries at street corners in several places in Mountain View. Is that legally allowed? Why are the police not enforcing the law?

I disagree that these probably had bad parents. There are a lot of good parents but because of their skin color their children are targeted and actively recruited by gangs. These gangs will use anything to recruit these kids including intimidation. Some of the kids and the parents are here illegally, which can also be used to the recruiters advantage. Illegal immigrants are less likely to get involved with police to report crimes. Something needs to be done against this war that has been declared on our communities. Nothing will change until we can secure out orders.
