San Antonio proposal includes 400 homes

A developer has proposed 400 homes and 225,000 square feet of new retail space for the San Antonio shopping center — the topic of a three-hour City Council study session Tuesday evening.

Another place to buy groceries, something different from the combination of Safeway, Trader Joe's, Milk Pail and Whole Foods? And the carneceria on California Avenue? That group constitutes a large range of options, thorough enough to easily discredit the developer's assertion. What else might the developer be misrepresenting? Does this developer lack an understanding of the site? Or is it simply stupidity?

We need someone with better ideas than what we have heard so far.
