Two arrested during checks on sex offenders

Original post made on Sep 23, 2009

Police say two men were arrested last week after a routine check on registered sex offenders run by a federal task force discovered that they were not complying with conditions of their parole — and that one had child pornography on his computer.

Has anyone else heard about a sex offender hanging around Bubb Park? I have received the following email warning from several sources:

Pass this along to any of your neighbors and local friends.... (came from a very VERY reliable source)

Head's up if you go to Bubb Park in Mt View. There is a registered
sex offender hanging out at the bathrooms at Bubb Park. I am just
forwarding this so you can keep an eye on your kids and their safety.

call 650-903-6395 from your cell for emergencies

Here are hard facts confirmed with authorities:
-Yes, this person has been around for years. But not without incidents. Yes, we are talking about one guy. The fence guy and the bathroom guy are the same guy.

-The police agree he is escalating, and he is confirmed as a registered sex offender. He has been considered low risk in the past. The police and many neighbors have noted an uptick in his behavior these past few months.

- He is enough of a threat that the parks department was instructed to build a second fence. He may be able to go in and out through that fence due to a gap, or loosened boards.

- Due to certain laws he does not fit the criteria to be on the Megan's law website.

- It is not clear whether the school could have legally shared the nature of its restraining order, posted info in the office for parents to see, mentioned it in a newsletter, or shared their knowledge about this person and his shared fence with Bubb Park.

Comment on post by Cuesta Park Mom....what do we do, wait until he molests a little kid and THEN re-arrest him? Why aren't the police doing something about this? If this guy is lurking around Park bathrooms that sounds like grounds for arrest or at least relocating him someplace else? If I lived in that area (especially with children) I would be raising H__L about it. And another note, the parks department had to put up a 2nd fence, who paid for that? I am sure you can guess.

The police are only interested in arresting decent people who look drunk and don't do what their told when ordered about by them.

I don't have any special knowledge here but I suspect the person mentioned by Cuesta Park Mom is not a registered sex offender. If he were, then hanging around a park would be grounds to take some action.

I don't care if he is registered or not. If he is "hanging out" in bathrooms in a children's park, then the police should be on it. Like the poster above said, will it take a tragic incident for some action to be taken on this? I don't understand the fence and the loose boards. The park is wide open to the street. Where is this fence and how is it suppose to keep this one person out?
