My son rides to MV High on the wonderful new extension of the Stevens Creek Trail -- and get to school faster than I can drive him there! I love the trail and am thrilled that the MVHS is encouraging the students to ride -- plus I'm proud of my son for taking the initiative to do so.

Great news. Now if the parents could get the school to stop subsidizing driving by giving away parking spaces for essentially nothing, they might make some real progress.

Hip-hip-hooray!! Now, if we can get some more middle and elementary school kids on bikes too!! But in the meantime, I applaud all those who do ride their bikes or walk to school; at the same time, will all of those parents in those GIGANTIC SUV's and mini-vans, please, please, please watch out for the rest of us!! Going by your kid's school in the morning or afternoon at drop off or pick-up time is insanely dangerous because it seems as though you have eyes only for your kid...oh yeah, and put down the stupid phone, will you?!!

This is fantastic news, esp. with the obesity rate of kids rising so fast. We can all do our part by understanding that bikes have become so prevalent that they are now a MAJOR component of all non-freeway traffic, so if you're in a car please realize
there's more than just other cars to be aware of on the roads...and put down the d*mn phone mom!

Jon, I'm shocked that you would suggest a rationing method based on price. You sound like a non-econmist trying to evaluate everything in terms of money. I think the real reason for the change in attitude was my award winning video that highlighted the level of congestion at MVHS. BTW, purchased a new bike and ready to race you out to Sports Page via SCT.

Great job Scott for putting this program together! It's great to see the positive results.

Scott is to be congratulated on his commitment to the CFCC. He has worked tirelessly for the past year to promote the 'bike-to-school' mind set, and I'm glad to see his work is paying off.

To those families whose circumstances prohibit a bike ride to school -- how about this: drop your kids off 3-4 blocks away from school. They get a bit of exercise, the traffic congestion around the school goes WAYY down, as does the risk of injury to the pedestrian traffic.

Most kids like to bike to school if given the opportunity. They like the freedom and independence it gives them, and the logistical issues are minor challenges to them. The problem is convincing over-protective parents to let them do it. I hope the school can provide enough secure bike parking that the increase in biking will not lead to an increase in theft. There is no larger disincentive to riding your bike home from school than to find your bike gone!
