Great article, Kelsey! Our Farmers'Market really is the best around, especially since there is more room for more vendors at the train station location. I would say that the $42 average is easy to exceed since the choices are so amazing. I had a good talk with Gail, the director who mentioned that last week's chefs and cars demonstrations was a special request from the manufacturer. Apparently word of our successful Farmers' Market has spread to Japan! Well, at least to the regional Marketing offices...

A nice article but a little more depth. In a cash industry the main reason for secretive sales is tax avoidance. Wouldnt be surprised if the IRS sets rules if the industry becomes bigger. As for transportation costs, the article failed to mention economies of scale. My experience has been that the local option does not necessarily lead to lower prices. Some prices are lower and some are higher. Food from a grocery chain may come farther but at lower costs because of how it is transported. The local option is usually a truck or a van, with less product, resulting in higher costs.
