I went through Leadership Mountain View (LMV) in 1992-3 and thought it was a fantastic, practical way to learn about this wonderful city. Most of the people who go through the program find some way to "give back" to the community, and many have made major contributions.
If I had to summarize the benefit of LMV in one short sentence I'd say that "it makes you more effective in accomplishing the things that are important to you." This is true no matter if your interests are in the arts, education, environment, or whatever.
If I moved to another city, the first thing I would do to get plugged in to my new town would be to enroll in its leadership program.
Cheers,

I participated and really enjoyed and benefited from it -- heartily recommend it for people who like to be informed, involved and effective in their community (plus I made several good friends in MV).

Since graduating LMV in 2001 the rewards keep coming in. I gained confidence in navigating the layers of the community. The many friends and volunteer opportunities that opened up are priceless and continue to deveolp year by year.
I highly recommend the investment of time and money for a great reward of knowledge and friendships.
