These kids (aka young adults) need more programs like the San Jose Conservation Corp Web Link They need education and vocational skills, once they have something to lose they are not going to risk it running around with low-lifes.

I was at Rengstorff on thurs. eve. when a group of 10 young Latino men swirled like seagulls yelling and swearing at each other. They started swinging belts and sticks at each other,it ended as fast as it started.They ran to their cars and drove off. Why do they dislike each other so much? I don't get it.

When I was a cop (now retired) in Mountain View, I worked with Tim Segovia at age 10. I feel really sorry that my (our) efforts at Dreams & Futures didn't work. We tried! Can't win 'em all. He was a talented kid. Sadly enough the gang won out!

Any further details on this story? I know that area very well, my parents live around the corner. Quiet residential neighborhood, Bluebell is probably less than a 1/4 mile long and all houses average price probably 900K, its an internal neighborhood off wolfe road, I cant imagine a brawl in the street with 15-20 people occuring there.

That's the thing, "residential", this type of violence can occur anywhere, even in a normally quiet area of the All American city. Perhaps the brawl resulted from a party there or the combatants could have even been travelling down the road and turned off into that neihborhood to settle things. We just don't have the details yet, as you pointed out.

Also as Joe mentions, Rengstorff Park is still the site of the perpetual turf battle between red and blue. The reasons why they dislike each other so much are complicated in the least, stretching all the way to our jails/prisons and then back out to the streets. Cops I've talked to say they are putting extra patrol attention on Rengstorff this summer, so hopefully things will improve out there again.

Surenos are responsible for the majority of violence that takes place in mountain view. When i was a kid they used to pick on me for wearing a sf baseball cap and almost jumped me one time, i had to run. The ignorance behind their one-way mentality is staggering. You don't have to necessarily belong to a gang to become an attacker or a victim of violence. I try to motivate young minds and encourage them to stay in school and away from all the misery and despair that awaits, when building up hate towards someone you don't even know. I'm 24 and currently a college student at Foothill.

I am good friends with two of the accused and all i have to say is, now that the kid is dead everyone that doesn't know the story automatically goes to that side because of sympathy for someones loss. This was NOT Gang related! it was personal between the deceased man and one of the attackers. Another correction is 3 out of the 15 involved were Latinos. The deceased man was hanging with a bunch of Indian guys. Please get the facts straight and understand REAL gang members dont kill just to kill! Its not right to kill but just so you know, there are ranks you need to go through to get the OK to kill. Real gang members have commandment, and structure. These were no gang members. I personally know Timmy and Charlotte and both are awesome people that were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
