Martha Kanter to speak Friday on U.S. education

Martha Kanter, the Foothill-De Anza chancellor nominated for U.S. undersecretary of education, will give a talk on education issues Friday at Hewlett Packard headquarters in Palo Alto.

I hope that Dr. Kanter will carefully read the Federal Constitution and note that the words "education" and "schools" are not therein. Also Amendment X says that if it is not in the Constitution it is not a federal issue, it is "left to the states and to the people." Public schools should be run by state and local governments, without federal control or federal money. Dr. Kanter should gently phase out federal activity regarding our public schools.
