The title of your story implies that we were just a foster family to Ronnnie. In fact, we were his legal family. Ronnie, my son, lived with us for 11 years.

i definitely feel for the parents who have raised this kid. but the kid lived by violence and died by it. from the story , it looks like this kid was out of control and had an inclination towards violence and crime rather than becoming a good citizen. i am just relieved that no innocent person died because of this fight over a girl. come on , parents! teach your kids about the value of life. it is not just enough wearing cross around your neck, going to churches and driving with religious bumper stickers in your car.

hello kenny, i don't know ronny miers and their family. i understand their pain of losing their son. at the same time, if the content of the article is true, then it does look to me ronny was involved in matters that are not acceptable and he had many chances to reform his life and it does seem to me that his parents tried hard. my point is that i am relieved that no innocent bystander who in no way related to their fight got hurt in that situation. gangs anv violence have become way of life in many communities and innocent people have a hard time living a normal and peaceful life among these criminals controlling the streets.

We lived next door to the Mires for ten years and were a part of a number of their foster children's lives that lived in their loving home. Ronnie was an exception in that he became a guardian and a big part of the family who got him involved with sports, school and vacations. He was a very sweet and helpful kid and we will miss that little boy that came to the Mires stealing from stores and smoking cigarettes at age 5. The Mires provided a stable family base but he had a lot of strikes against him. Ronnie will always be in my heart, that little boy with the bright eyes and big smile.

To the Mires Family,
We just found out about little Ronnie. We are so sorry about your loss. He was very lucky and blessed to have your family in his short life. It doesn't matter what the circumstances of his death are, no one deserves to be taken so young. Just remember that he was loved and will be missed. I knew little Ronnie when he was at Springer and he was always so sweet and respectful. I will miss his smile. Please remember that, we are here for your and the family.

Ronnie Mires was a loving and caring person. Our son Mario looked up to him and loved him. He was always respectful and kind to us. He was loved by many people and his passing leaves a big tragic hole in our hearts as well as the people who knew him. Our prayers go out to both the Gomez and Mires family. I hope you know that you did the best you can - you loved him and that is an extraordinary gift for any human being to receive. I feel sorry for Tiffany Roberts... People really need to think before they post certain comments. We never want to fault a parent because a child gets sucked up into the mean streets, it happens every where, every day.

I taught Ronnie in First Grade at Springer School. I'll never forget he brought in his pet iguana to share! I was so saddened to hear of this tragedy, especially as I still often see many of his former schoolmates, it seems so unbelievable to me that Ronnie is gone. I have known Janet Mires for over 30 years. First as a young woman who I worked with at a restaurant where the Old Mill in Mountain View used to be. Our second chapter in life has been as a mother to our children along with maintaining our friendship that we started over 30 years ago. Janet Mires has a heart that has an endless amount of love to give, which she has given to not only her "own" children, but at least 20 other foster children that she has taken into her home and loved as her "own." Ronnie Mires was given the gift of a family and love from the Mires'. He was loved as much as any one could be loved and he tried his very hardest to give love back. Ronnie died a tragic death, he was gunned down in cold blood. He was murdered and no one, and I mean no one deserves to be murdered. I hope with all of my heart that they catch who ever did this and he receives the punishment that he does in fact deserve.

Janet - You know that I am here for you and my heart is broken as any mother's would be. You will be sorely missed Ronnie but you will never stop being loved.

ronnie wAS MY BOYFRIEND for almost three years we were in unity care together i was there the whole time when he got shot the first time.. he does and will forever hold my heart we were talkin about getting married and everything ronnie was a unique soul that jus captured my heart frm the start.. i love him more than anything in this world and nothing or nobody will ever change that..we have so many memories together that keep me compfort at nite.. i love u kane forever and always.......never forget wat u always tell me k..........
