Moffett Military Plane that flies around and around, over our neighborhood, again and again

Yes, exactly. More importantly, in general when are we going to start making it not okay to let a select few inflict so much noise pollution on the rest of us?

That would be the sound of FREEDOM! They are most likely practicing 'Touch n Go'. I'm sure it's the Air National Guard's 129th Wing. They
are working to PROTECT us. Thank them for it, rather than complain.

The select few would be you and did you NOT notice the Airfield when you moved here. You should have been here when it was a full blown Naval Air Station. P-3 Orion's flew constantly.
This little bit of action is nothing like what I grew up with.
I am proud to have the 129th Rescue Wing here.

I assume that the planes are doing touch-and-go practice.
If a little bit of noise is your biggest sacrifice, you've got it pretty good. Drive up 280 past Colma to put that in perspective.
Besides, my children think it is cool to see the big planes up close.

Well put, Theresa. I also miss the P-3 Orions. I'd like to see the Blue Angels again as well.
I cannot understand people who move next to airports then complain about the noise. Well, I cannot understand that whole liberal victimization and entitlement viewpoint in general.

My wife and I have lived here in Mountain View just across 101 from Moffett Field for 15 years. Although the noise from the low level practice/training runs of the C-130s over our house has been an ongoing issue and a negative impact on our quality of life we understand the importance of these maneuvers in the overall scheme of things.
With that said we do call the Moffett Noise Hotline at (650) 604-2940 when the flights get low enough to set off car alarms on our street (about twice to three times a year). The results have been good with the flights stopping shortly after our calls in most cases and return calls from staffers addressing our concerns.
With that said my main concern is with the escalation of these flights during bad weather conditions (incoming storms, wind, etc) that we have noticed over time. I guess the idea is to get more flight time for pilots during these conditions, however doing this at relatively low altitudes over populated areas seems to be a prescription for calamity.
Fortunately we haven't had any accidents yet but it's hard to believe that the envelope isn't being pushed.
My hope is that the powers-that-be at Moffett reconsider this risky activity and reduce the danger and liability during bad weather. There has to be a better way to train and practice bad weather flying than to do it at low level over populated neighborhoods in Mountain View.
I understand the sentiment of the "Sound of Freedom" but one mistake could become the "Sound of Disaster".

I'm guessing you haven't lived in Mountain View very long. If this is one of the biggest problems you and your family face it seems to me you are doing just fine. Let's not have Mountain View turn into Palo Alto where one or two complaints change things for everyone! Those planes have been there for a reason and they continue to be there for a reason.
I too miss the Blue Angels and I'm a liberal through and through. Go figure U.S.A.! :p

Wow...I am amazed at some of your responses. Let's see. We should not have to put up with a sacrifice and be inconvenienced by our fliers training to protect us. Sooooo, what would you suggest they do for training....play with model airplanes? Also, did you not notice that Mt View included Moffet Airfield when considering moving here? As long time residents, we accept overflights as the sound of freedom.

Bruno, love ya, man. You're alright.
Jack, good point. The basic touch-and-go training should be done over less populated areas.

Just to get back on track with the point of my original post: it is the TIMING of these practice flights between 8-10pm (bedtime for some of us) that I was complaining about. Furthermore, I do not live next to Moffett Field. So no, I did not expect 'practice missions' over my house AT NIGHT. How kind of those of you who threw the 'buyer beware' argument at me. You sure like the high sticker prices that us newcomers are paying for your old real estate though, don't you?
Mr. Deaton: Good point about the safety concerns of practice missions over residential neighborhoods too. This plane flies over parts of Los Altos, Sunnyvale and Cupertino too.
I am offended that some of you turned this into a liberal v. support our troops issue. This has nothing to do with that. What, is it a sacrilege to ever criticize anything military anymore? Gasp! Get real folks and please spare me these clichés. I was just asking for some good neighbor manners from Moffet: simply fly those planes in the day and let your civilian neighbors have some peaceful sleep.

Dawn, dusk, and night operations are what the military does. There's no use practicing in broad daylight. God forbid if a commercial plane ever has to ditch in the Pacific inbound to California in limited light conditions. I'd want a rescue wing available and well-rehearsed in improving my, and my fellow passengers slime chances of survival. That's a primary mission of this unit that no one wants to admit. How's that for a non-support our troops arguement?
Educate yourself quietplease.

When you buy a house near an airport, you can't complain about the noise....didn't you know your house was subject to aircraft noise, at all hours, when you purchased it? The rescue squadron at Moffett practices for all contingencies including rescuing people at night. So are you asking this squadron to sacrifice their night proficiency because you moved near the airport and expect the skies to be silent?

Eh, the military jets don't bother me. It's the Google jet that does ;)

I too expect "good neighbor manners from Moffet". They know it's a potential problem or there wouldn't be a hotline to call! This has nothing to do with our troops or "protection". I agree that it has everything to do with respect of those of us with children. Perhaps the compromise would be to do evening exercises on Fri/Sat night so our young children who cannot sleep due to the noise are not as sleepy in school the following day. And believe me, if I had the income to live in Los Altos or some other area that is not affected, I'd be there in a flash! R E S P E C T

YUCK. Could you imagine being married to this squeeky wheel. Lets all step back and have compassion for the Husband who has to listen to his bad choice on a daily basis. Inside he knows its true

I grew up 2 blocks from Moffett. I always felt safe knowing our troops were in my neighborhood.
