Linda's Parisian Burger is Back

Original post made by Nick, another community, on Jan 12, 2009

Heads up to long-time MVers who remember and new-time MVers who may have only heard or read about them - one of our city's most beloved culinary comfort foods from the past - the Parisian Burger - is being brought back at Armadillo Willys locations.

The Parisian Burger, served with tater tots, with its "secret sauce" was a creation of Linda's Drive-In on El Camino Real and Escuela (where the Wolf Camera Store building is now). After Linda's closed in the 80s the recipe was passed around from family to family and was recently published in the SJ Mercury - but now Armadillo's is recreating the burger at their restaurants.

Haven't tried their version of the burger yet - but definitely looking forward to giving it a go. Hopefully they got it right and it's not just for a "limited time" like the e-mail blast says - or they at least keep it at the Los Altos location.

Here's the full text of the e-mail that was just forwarded to me:

"THE LEGEND RETURNS

Linda's Drive-In -famous- Parisian Burger with Super Fries

All Beef Patty, American Cheese, Secret Sauce on a Fisherman's Wharf Sour Dough Bun served, of course, with "Super Fries" just like at Linda's Drive-In in Mountain View back in the 50's, 60's and 70's.

Available now for a limited time at Armadillo Willy's nine Bay Area locations. Armadillo Willy's, the new home of the Parisian Burger!

Come on in for a nostalgic taste that you may or may not have had the pleasure of tasting in the past. For those of you who have been fortunate to have experienced a Parisian Gubger - I guess you can go home again! "

the bun was too big and it wasn't the sour dough type of bun even though they say it is, my bun was white so it wasn't even left long
enough to brown.
not enough sauce, too much cheese but it brought back
good memories of Linda's. Tater Tots were great!

Pretty good Reproduction, even down to the white paper pouch that it was served in. The one I tasted hada bit too much sauce than I remember. The patty seemed bigger than before and may be a little less cheese that I recall. In all a good trip down Mountain View Memory lane

During the early 70's I was enrolled at Foothill College and lived a block away from Linda's. Needless to say, I devoured more than my fair share of Parisian's (and everything else on the menu) over a period of several years. The Armadillo Willy's version isn't "spot on" but certainly close enough to bring back fond memories of the original. The sauce seems to be right on the money but the bun's texture and overall "construction" of the sandwich are a bit different. Even so, it's a great burger and the "super fries" are excellent! Now that the famous sauce recipe has been published on the web, it wouldn't be difficult to make your own Parisian's with a side of tots for a nostalgic family meal.
