Original post made on Dec 1, 2008

With looming budget cuts in mind, at least one elementary school district trustee wondered during a board meeting last week whether the district can afford to start a nearly $2 million building project.

Why did they give Slater School to Google?

PACT could have stayed at Slater ,with Slater open and a neighborhood with a school, for the 400,000 they are proposing it would cost to keep this new school open(and the 2 million to build it)-this is ridiculous and if the plan goes through it is an insult to the North Whisman neighborhood that MVWSD would close a GREAT school and then build another one three years later? I am dumbfounded.

Anytime MVWSD wants to spend some money they always claim it is coming from a fund specifically set up for whatever they need at the time. A construction fund-wow!?!

What happened to Whisman School? What exactly is German International School of Slicon Valley?

well if they had kept Slater open this wouldn't have been a problem. The Castro campus is crazy busy. Not only is there 660 students but there is also 150 preschool students, so the campus is more than full.

Yes, and we can all thank ELEANOR YICK! (Superintendent at the time) She pushed the closure all the way through.

And that's the same Yick who plumped up her retirement payout on the way out. Apparently it was technically legal in the end, but morally wrong. No wonder the district and, even much worse, the state are in such a bind now.
