Original post made by Joe, Shoreline West, on Oct 21, 2008

An Alta Vista High School student suffered minor injuries this morning after being struck by a car while riding her bicycle to school this morning near the intersection of Wright Avenue and Shoreline Blvd. The driver fled the scene and has not yet been identified.

The vehicle is described as a silver sedan. The Hit and Run occurred at about 7:30 AM today.

If you have any information as to the identity of the driver, please contact Mountain View Police.

Thanks

I just spoke to Liz Wylie, spokesperson for the Mountain View Police Department, and she said the accident was not a hit and run. It occurred this morning at 7:48 a.m. at the intersection of Gemini Street and Wright Ave. when a car collided with a student biking to Alta Vista High School. The driver of the car stayed on the scene, and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Apparantly the spokesman for MVPD was mistaken or mis-quoted. The driver fled the scene, and the victim was treated for some minor injuries. The victim is my daughter.

Joe, I spoke with Liz Wylie again after reading your most recent comment. Here is the update: she said there was no vehicle involved in the accident. Originally, police thought it may be a hit and run since the bicyclist was found in the middle of the street. There were no scratches on the bike, however, and no witnesses. According to police, the bicyclist eventually said she felt a bump before she fell. She had originally thought it was a car, but was not sure.

The police did not call an ambulance to the scene.

They have reported it as a traffic accident since a bike was involved.

Funny how the MVPD has decided that no vehicle was involved. My daughter was hit by a vehicle, she was injured, and her bike was damaged. It was my wife who refused EMT response, not MVPD. She was on the scene prior to the police since we live two blocks away.

The only witness was the victim, and she seems like she's been somehow discredited as to her version of the events. We notified MVPD because we felt that a crime was committed.

My whole purpose in writing this post was to inform our neighbors, and encourage anyone with information to please come forward and help MVPD investigate the incident.
