Voice makes push for mail delivery

Original post made on Aug 23, 2008

In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and eliminate use of the ubiquitous blue plastic bags, the Voice is beginning a campaign to return the paper to mail delivery. And we need our readers' help.

How many have requested the paper to be mailed?

Forget about mail. Just use the internet and save more carbon waste.

Why would you want to add to our Junk Mail pile? I think it would be a giant step backwards.

If I get this in the mail, it would go right in the trash, along with the link to this website.

I live in the St. Francis Acres neighborhood near McKelvey Park
Ball Park not listed her. Where do we sign up on line for mail delivery?

John and Shirley... I think you guys misunderstood. You have to request to receive a copy of "The Voice" in the mail before they'll send you one. You won't ever just get it as "junk mail".

The push to get readers to approve is just a vote which needs a minimum number of people agreeing to make the switch from getting it via newspaper delivery carrier now versus via the USPS possible in the future. It's not like they're all of a sudden going to send every Mountain View resident a paper every week if the vote passes.

In either case if you don't want the paper then you won't ever get it unless you ask to get it.

If you are receiving unwanted copies of "The Voice", it may be that the previous owner of renter of your house requested it in the past and didn't bother to cancel the free subscription when they moved. If so, there's a phone number found inside "The Voice" that you can call to take your address off their subscription list. It's a win-win situation since it saves the environment, printing costs, and the extra effort to recycle an unwanted and unread paper.
