The city also needs to consider the educational needs of the many new residents that will live in the new developments, because as of Slater's closing-we don't have one!

I think that Mr. Meier has a very legitimate concern here-- what sort of due diliegence has the city done on this? Did anyone from city staff actually go to inspect any similar flood control projects, or are they just trusting the flood control district to translate the pretty picture they submitted to be translated into something better than a drainage ditch?

Mr. Meier is mistaken on one fact. "Save Open Space" did actually endorse the project. I think that SOS-- which did a fine job in keeping the annex as actual open space a while back--- is one or two guys who dont speak for the broader community. I think that they're getting sold a bill of goods, frankly.

Here's the deal-breaker for me. The purpose of this sort of flood control project is not really to prevent a flood that may occur once every 100 years, but is really to remove 1000 homes from a certain flood zone code, saving this small group of homeowners money on their flood insurance. 100 year floods are really floods that have a 1% chance of happening in any given year, not an event that is expected once a century.
