Asbestos drives renters out for good

Original post made on Nov 1, 2007

Three weeks after a botched roofing job caused asbestos contamination and rainwater damage in their homes, several residents of the Americana apartment complex are moving out for good.

Yes, Prometheus abosolutely does not give enough compensation to cover all the expenses involved in an emergency apartment hunting and the losses due to time. It looks like they prefers to deal with lawyers.

Can anyone see the failure and corruption of the city and state agancies in this. Where is the Meyor of Mountain View and what does he think about this? Why do we pay taxes to these agancies? I wish the Mountain View Voice would interview our elected officials so that these shameful episodes and their position on them can be aired when they are running for office. Are single homeowners in Mountain View treated the same by the City Hall? How much do they get paid to look the other way? Has Ms. Karen Schkolnick seen how many "kiligrams" of asbestos were coming down? Has she even been in any of Americana apartments? Of course it is not in her jurisdiction...she doesn't live there! Why take the hard case against a giant corporation with money and track record of 69 law suits. Just take it easy, get paid and enjoy tax payers money!

Do the people who work for Prometheous and these city and state agancies have families? One could only wish the same or worse happens to them and their families. In the meanwhile, they probably sit at dinner and discuss how they got away with it!

Send the article to your corrupt and on-the-take elected officials and Mountain View City Hall useless workers. Help them enjoy their leisure time (8-5) in the office!

So, Ms. Schkolnick, if workers weren't trying to remove the asbestos, but instead shook it loose, "probably" unknowingly (certainly Promethous knew and the management was made aware of it repeatedly by the tenants), then there was no reason to warrant tests by the district! Do you know how ridiculous you sound? How did you get this job? Do you know how much is a gram? There were many KILOGRAMS of material raining down and nails shooting through the asbestos ceiling! What is the sense of explaining to you...you wouldn't understand it anyway, Ms. Parrot!

They certainly found the right person as a spokeperson! Who interviewd you for this job? Did you even go to any apartment to see if there was a "gram" of material? How can you live with yourself?

Does Ms. Karen Schkolnick work for Prometheous...if not, she is the right quality for the job!

There is a police incident report documenting that the workers knew about the asbestos...the report was filed with the foreman of the workers present while the tenants were complaining about the asbestos dust at 8:00 PM! how ridiculous! The police advice was "go to a hotel"...(Case #: 07-7229, Date: 10/4/2007)

They are truly unbelievable. I cannot imagine they will get away with this in 2007!

Building 6 at the Americana narrowly escpaed the disaster in Building 5. Work was supposed to start on a new roof on October 2. I do not know how far it got, but, it has, for the moment at least, been stopped. I, however, fear for the future. The Prometheus thugs are capable of just going ahead and creating the same mess in Building 6 as soon as everything cools down. I am sure they think they can get away with it, just as they have in the pasr.

Don't be so sure that "Prometheous Slum Lord Company" and their shady lawyers are going to get away with it this time. Also, Mr. Tan may have to eat his own popcorn someday!

Since Prometheous is so sure that they have done no harm to anyone, why not issue a statement asserting that they have tested the apartments and the result shows that there is no contamination to anything and no exposure to anyone and stand behind their claim...no disclaimers allowed! Leave that to Ms. Schkolnick!

Prometheous would not assert any safety claims because:
1. They know, they have been maliciously neglegint
2. They know the extent of contamination and the health hazards they have caused
3. It is all about money for Mr. Tan and family
4. Don't expect poisenous snakes to kiss you and make it better!

Ms. Schkolnick, asbestos is different than Ass-Best-Us and a gram spread over an apartment does not look the same as what you buy in the street.

I am not so sure that the "Prometheus Slum Lord Group" will be punished for their despicable actions at the Americana. They, after all, got away with serious crimes in the Biltmore disaster in Cupertino. Jon Moss, the shady Prometheus operative, even seems to be proud of Prometheus' actions there. Read his astounding letter to the Cupertino Courier:
Web Link
Has he been punished for this? No, he is now the SENIOR Vice-President for Development at Prometheus.
What about the Cupertino city officials? They were eventually shamed into admitting that there were "no excuses for (Prometheus') conduct:" Web Link
But what happened? As far as I can tell-nothing. Prometheus is still operating. Jon Moss is not in prison.
What about now? The Mountain View City Council and the Mayor have spent the week celebrating their signing of an international agreement on climate change. Talk about priorities! I am ready to sign recall petitions for these turkeys.

Whoever knows about the next city of Mountain View council meeting, please announce it and let's all show up. A collective visit to Mayor's office with a phone call to all local media is also appropriate. Holding signs in front of Americana building and Prometheous house of crime in Redwood city is also appropriate. These criminals should be kicked out of Slum Lord business!

Well, at least now we know how Mr. Moss became a VP...he can tell his offsprings his secret of getting ahead! Not all criminals are in prison!

Don't wait for others to do it. Contact the local TV channels (KCBS 5, KGO 7, etc.). Prometheous may end up on 60 Minutes...

Hello Amigos,

Our apartment complex on California Avenue recently had its rotten wooden balconies replaced over the summer. There was a lot of dust and debris in the air after they drilled into the wall of the building, which dates to the late 1960s. The property manager assured us that there was no asbestos to worry about.

The manager's eyes were as wide as the cat in "Shrek". It made me a little suspicious so I thought I had better ask. Should we worry about what we may have been exposed to or can we trust the wide-eyed property manager?

Good reporting by Daniel DeBolt. Way to go amigo!
